A picture of a Nintendo Gamma Boy. It's kind of a geiger counter but looks just like a nintendo Game Boy. It has a Select, Start, and a knob to select options, and a Beta and Alpha button in that reddish pink. On screen is a little needle showing up to about 3.6 roentgen. to the left of the screen is a Battery and a Drop & Run indicator.

Alliteration is key. I suggest "Republicans in ruin", although "retreat", "rupture", "rout", and "ruckus" also come to mind.

I do know some people who object to the additional cognitive load - it's just one more [expletive] thing to have to care about, and their plate is already full.

In this instance, they'll do powder, but only if there's a scoop of the Right Amount so it's not something they have to care about.

a good evening to remember that the statute of limitations for a lot of federal crimes is longer than five years, and that state crimes cannot be pardoned by the President.

"other places that do ballots this way" - the bit where people are on multiple times with multiple parties ("fusion voting") is only New York and Connecticut, nowhere else.

Dick Cheney led America into a disastrous war based on false evidence. But he did so with civility, and for that I am eternally grateful.

A sandwich on butcher paper, in the form of a cibatta roll with ham, cheese, and pickles visible at the edges. Cut in half, and with grill marks running the length of the roll.

Yep. Most of the places I've lived were northeast urban 1880-1920 construction, there was a decade in a stone house from 1806 (the "old part" of that house was built in ~1750), a brief stint in a ~1950 ranch, and I currently own and live in a place from about 1890.

Lifespan of AI Chips: The $300 Billion Question - CITP Blog There's no question that we are in the midst of making one of the largest industrial infrastructure bets in United States history. 8 major companiesβ€”Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Meta, Oracle, OpenAI, an...

(There is already some funny business on the finance side about the useful lifetime of the chips versus depreciation and such. See for example blog.citp.princeton.edu/2025/10/15/l...)

Yeah, the "AI" part is the particular chips in the boxes. Putting in different boxes doesn't change much. Racks, power and network wiring, cooling and air handling will all be about the same.

Also, it's often employee-directed, rather than being a corp policy. When an employee of one of these corps donates to charity and gets a match from the employer, that match shows up under the employer's name.

I would rather live next door to someone who speaks another language than live next door to someone who doesn’t want to live near people who speak other languages. I know nothing about Person A but I know person B is a shitbird.

Baking was critical to the Lower Kingdom. It allowed the stationing of large forces to counter tribal raids into the fertile Nile region.

Bread production on that scale required advanced yeast filtering through linen bags.

If hadn't been for cotton-tied dough, they'd been harried long time ago.

... they seek scapegoats, they enjoy performative violence imposed on marginalized populations, etc.

They're just like that. Reactionaries exist. The right exists. It is not just a bunch of temporarily confused Dems disappointed by offshoring or whatever. They don't need anything to react to.

someone needs to convince the neighborhood children to say "treat or trick?" at every other house to minimize response order bias

A notable difference is that Google did not converge their internal infra and their cloud offering, like Amazon did. GCP is a layer bolted on top of the internal infra, not what internal applications use, and it shows.

Home - FoodForFree.org Food For Free improves access to healthy food within our community by rescuing food that would otherwise go to waste and creating new distribution channels to under-served populations with an emphasis...

Just gave a chunk of cash to Food for Free, a local food bank that is sort of complementary with the Greater Boston Food Bank, working especially on food rescue, fresh produce, and improving access for students and seniors. They’re a good one if you’re looking for someplace to donate.

Has anyone studied the impact of spoiled past-date IPA shelfies on craft sales?

I know a cursed NYT Article That Shall Not Be Named got us all dogpiling on the "IPAs suck" argument lately, but wouldn't buying a shitty spoiled grocery store IPA leave an impression?

Is there data on this?
