Bet the work stories the cops have now aren't ones they can talk about to friends. Only to co-offenders.

Given how many bad cops there are, statistically this was gonna happen... Especially when you factor in that abusers seek power.

The prime minister? Our one? Show his face in relation to a scandal, a gigantic failing of the government? That's not what a CEO does. He sends a memo and gets some underlings to take the fall.

Knowing this government, that means that either the reporting has dropped or they've just re-classified more kids as something other than "young people".

We buy depleted assets at a premium with taxpayer dollars, dump billions into bringing them back to a semblance of functionality, sell it to our mates for chump change, and they run them into the ground. That's the cycle, and it's why the 1% spend millions to get someone like luxon elected.

Drug use is a symptom, as is street-level crime in general, of their own failed policies.

I never thought anyone leading this country would be stupid enough to believe in it, but is this that accelerationism I've heard about? Bringing about the rapture by destroying the world? I can think of no other explanation. It fails every other test, even raw profit.

If more pressing needs were being addressed I wouldn't care nearly as much, but with people being turfed out of emergency housing, our medical system on the brink of collapse, and crisis hotlines being defunded that cost a fraction of this, it's misplaced.

What I would say to you is, if you want to protest, the only acceptable place to do so is individually in your own homes. With the curtains drawn. And only during the hours of midday to two PM.

I tried talking to my kiwisaver provider directly and they waved me off.

Not sure how I'd go about talking to an independent advisor without incurring significant costs. This was really just a "finger in the air" type of attempt at gauging opinions.

I'm still decades away from retirement, and have been told to "just leave it where it is, it'll recover", but my thinking is if I can avoid the drop and then take advantage of any recovery I'll be far better off than just riding it out.

OK so... this AI bubble. I'll be the first to admit the world of global finance is not my forte, but if I (personally) expect this whole thing to go very badly wrong soon, should I be looking to shift my kiwisaver manually from an aggressive to a conservative (or even cash-only) fund?

The current president has pretty clearly demonstrated that there is no standard of any kind beyond "born here" and "over 35" , so I wouldn't rule her out. All it takes is the kind of voter suppression, disenfranchisement, and disinformation they're already implementing.

They also haven't said how they would address the inability to even get an appointment in a reasonable timeframe at some GPs. The system needs a massive cash injection at multiple points to get anywhere near back to half-decent functionality.
