The Tobias and Lindsey meme from Arrested Development about open relationships. “No it never does. I mean, these people somehow delude themselves into thinking it might, but…but it might work for us.”

It’s giving this.

Hold onto that for like five more minutes.

Didn’t we learn our lesson the last three times we tried this shit?

We genuinely need a revival of virtue in the United States.

In my view, that’s almost as critical a project as any other structural reform project necessary in the wake of trumpism. We should become a society that actually values human life such that we would feel shame about this.

Tired of Ilia Malinin winning competitions by stringing quads together with the most perfunctory gesture at choreography, while skaters like Shun Sato deliver breathtaking performances that balance both the technical and artistic sides of the sport only to lose.

I think she gets away with a lot of her very, uh, unconsidered opinions and actions because people think she’s like 22.

Americans tend to only be aware of the British royal Family. But if you’re a person who loves gawking at celebrity mess and you’re not paying attention to the Norwegians and their slow-motion car crash of a Royal Family you’re missing out.

Is this a republican asking for a safe space? 🤨

I would also point out that Congress is supposed to direct a lot of these areas (tariffs, declaring war, immigration law…) and has just let Trump do things without exerting any kind of oversight. It’s Congress that’s broken. We wouldn’t be better off if Mike Johnson were PM.

We do have parliamentary control over the president. Parliament (Congress) has just declined to exert that control. At literally any moment they could commence impeachment proceedings and remove him.

We’ve spent the last 15 years at least talking about how everyone is looking for “authenticity” in everything and yet for some reason the democrats can’t let go of consultants selling them reheated advice from 1992.

Arresting someone for a crime is not a violation of civil rights laws, come on now.

I definitely read “local licenses” as a weasely way to say “they’re licensed in the Philippines” without saying that explicitly. But maybe I’m wrong.

If you didn’t know Will was talking about ICE you’d think this was about drug cartels or something.

Ms. (American English)[1] or Ms (British English;[2] normally /ˈmɪz/, but also /məz/, or /məs/ when unstressed)[3][4] is an English-language honorific used with the last name or full name of a woman, intended as a default form of address for women regardless of marital status

She’s not Miss Rachel, though, she’s Ms Rachel which is deliberately marital status neutral.

Question. What do you think Ms. means?

No more, no more.

Worth noting that Episcopal bishops are elected by the members of their diocese, not appointed by a pope or king. That means that the historically extremely conservative people of the diocese of Dallas deliberately chose Bishop Price to be their leader.

Literally sent this to my priest yesterday. Shocking it’s coming out of Dallas of all places.

Once again, allow me to invite you to behold the utterly abject poverty of the Very Serious Pundits' & Democratic Senators’ argument that it is <checks notes> The Democrats who are the ones who Talk Funny, are not Moderate™️ enough, & have fallen out of touch with Real Folkz in America.

This is also now more or less the policy of this government in re: the sovereign territory of every other country in the Western Hemisphere. The authoritarianism at home and abroad are of a single piece.

Why would anyone ask this specific collection of very mediocre thinkers (who are NOT foreign policy, IR, NatSec, military experts) that question? Masochism?

I will happily run a crash course on military history and theory for liberal policy people.

It is not hard stuff, but it is important stuff.

The flip side of this conversation. European healthcare costs are mostly low due to price controls, not single payer (which is only a UK strategy). The U.S. won’t price control, but it’s also unclear how much cutting high U.S. health spending would impact global health innovation. It’s complicated!

Also Germany specifically has made a bunch of dumb energy decisions, but that’s a different rant.

Europe, despite American discourse to the contrary, has been stuck in a damaging austerity spiral since the financial crisis, and their governments aren’t spending enough to stimulate growth. We just don’t spend when we’re not in crisis.

Among the many questions I have about this: did Robin Hood go and steal Genghis Khan’s bow? That is NOT a longbow.
