I'm trying to save money (medical bills) but I'm really interested in this game. I might treat myself, fuck it. Will probably have more fun with it than Z-A tbh lol

I know TTYD was a remake, and thus might not seem to be on the level of a new game. But I can't overstate how cool it is for one of your most life-defining games to get new content. New music, new animations, new text, new battles.

2024: Somehow, Paper Mario TTYD returned.
2025: Somehow, 3D Donkey Kong returned. (And..... other things along with it)
2026: Somehow, Castlevania returned.
Every year lately I get at least one thing, and that's pretty good.

I would argue that having more low-key, relaxing portions in between more exciting stuff IS good pacing, anyway. Trying to keep escalating more and more with no "rest stops" will make the impactful stuff not hit as hard. I think people imagine they want constant bombast, by they really don't

It is with the vast majority of people. But there are others who cling on to any excuse to be a bully, and you're more likely to find that online (ironically, I think for some people being an asshole on the internet is their "nerdy hobby")

A lot of people don't believe that you can be really passionate and knowledgeable about "nerdy" interests but also have a relatively balanced life where you go outside and do other stuff. Idk it's just sad on their part

I dunno, just the idea that reverting DK fully back to being some kind of arcade throwback series would have actually gone over successfully with the public is really funny to me

Presuming this was before Returns, I feel like the boom of "retro revival" stuff and indie games that imitate simpler arcade/NES style experiences was still some time off. I guess there were smaller eshop games and stuff. And there was Mario vs DK anyway but it didn't exactly set the world on fire

It seems so weird and astroturfed in retrospect. Not to bash on the historical importance of the arcade games but would anyone at that time have REALLY wanted a new arcade-style DK game versus a full fledged platformer. Like, really and truly and honestly. Who wrote that, Cranky Kong?

Yeah, I did speedrun it for a while too, so that really escalates the amount of times I've beaten it lol.

I've been told I'm "lucky" it happened so early in the process. Again, it doesn't help me to know this.
I felt the bitterness of keeping this secret threatening to grow and consume me. It's been hard for me to care about much lately. So I'm hoping putting it out there helps me heal and move on now.

I was originally only going to tell a few people about this and maybe it's too private for this website but I feel some need to move on and be at peace. No amount of knowing it's common and natural makes me feel better. This is the real reason I need to take a step back from most things.

In January I discovered I was pregnant after 6+ months of trying. I was extremely happy about this for two weeks. Then I started bleeding. After a couple days I went to the ER and they confirmed the miscarriage.
The whiplash has thrown my hormones, health and emotions completely haywire.

I wasn't going to talk about this publicly, but after another day of depression so bad I could barely function, I'm just going to get it off my chest. The thing I keep dancing around. Then I'm going to put it to bed and not mention it again. Medical stuff ahead.

I don't want to be too smug about it. I have self esteem issues I wouldn't wish on anyone and it sucks. But the fact remains that I'm at odds with a lot of the ways an artist or "content creator" is expected to be, and it's brought me a lot of distress in the past. I'm happier when I disengage

I should also say that when I get into cynical moods like this, a lot of it based on my own experiences I've had and the way I've been treated by certain "friends" in the past, but it's too much to go into. I try not to be distrustful or let it get in the way of meeting new people. But I get tired

It's hard to put into words, and it's always hard to rant about this stuff because I don't want to feel like I'm calling out or insulting anyone specifically, but I don't even think the internet promotes a genuinely healthy kind of self-love in most people, since it encourages comparison/competition
