The 2026 municipal budget is here — and it’s a mixed story for climate action in Ottawa.

Big transit gaps, a modest bump to the Climate Change Master Plan, steady tree funding, and major dollars for road work. Some wins… and some real missed opportunities.

Our Executive Director, William van Geest, spoke at the rally to highlight why Bill 60 threatens climate goals, street safety, and community well-being.

Ecology Ottawa opposes retrogressive Bill 60

Ecology Ottawa joined partner organizations this week to oppose the provincial government’s Bill 60 — legislation that would ban bike lanes if they require removing a car lane. This would severely limit municipalities’ ability to build safe, sustainable, people-first streets.

Biofuels have figured significantly at COP30 in Brazil as an emissions reduction solution.

Take care of yourselves out there, and your trees!

Make sure the mulch is not touching the trunk, leaving 2-3 inches of space between the trunk and your ‘donut’, to avoid rot. Wrapping your little tree with a tree wrap can also help protect it from the sun and sunscald.

To all our tree recipients, winter is coming, and it’s time to make sure our little tree seedlings are mulched well in a donut shape.

We could not have done it without our brilliant team of volunteers who truly go the extra mile to move us towards a greener city.

In collaboration with community partners, we hosted seven Tree Giveaways this fall, increasing tree canopy on private land, and bringing all the benefits of trees to Ottawa neighbourhoods.

Well Ottawa, the snow has fallen, and Tree Giveaway season has come to a close.

Spots are limited — please only reserve a ticket if you are certain you can attend, so we can make space for as many youth as possible. 🌱
