Time to file some ethics complaints!

I can’t wait for the experiment to end.

I’d go once a month.

Well if my experience is any guidance it is because she has a large following, a think skin, and is wrong.

If we are on the same internet, then I see a post saying we have tracked any and every object that could hit us?

I was just reading up on it to fact check myself and we currently have maybe 30% confidence of this and hope to get to 60% or so in a few years with new telescopes and orbiters.

I’m not trying to be THAT OTHER GUY here, either, but I’m gettin up in years and have always been pretty interested in this and I think there might be a bit of misplaced confidence in your assurance that we’ve got it all mapped out.

My understanding has always been that we only actually have a small fraction of the potential threats identified. The sky is very very big and there are places we don’t watch and parts we can’t see.

As a science journo, who has told you that an asteroid would never be a surprise?

"'Stop playing political games with children's lives,' said Elizabeth Adams, deputy director of Transportation Alternatives. 'We’re disappointed and angry that the City Council is working to water-down a critical, lifesaving bill.'"

Kinda like Waymo scaremongering while ignoring all the human driven carnage.

Proposed Montgomery County data center would use Potomac River water for cooling The data center would be located at the old Dickerson coal-fired power plant site. Residents, state officials, and local environmental groups are weighing what it will mean for the area.

Weird to not mention that not only was there a coal power plant, but that its hot water discharge was famously used for decades as a wintertime recreation amenity

COP30 features a β€œclimate mayor” conference that PDX’s Keith Wilson was featured at.

About a month ago Keith caved to whiners and rolled back a parking meter enforcement extension.

Me waiting for my daughter outside of the Brandy Melville flagship store

Definitely an unrealized market for pretty much anything for dads to do directly outside the Brandy Melville flagship store.

If I had my way, individual ownership of fully autonomous vehicles would be illegal (or at least practically impossible due to permits and insurance). I think this is an attainable policy and would be much more worth pursuing than the doomerism.

I’m sick and really tired of singling out shared mobility for extra fees. TAX ALL DRIVING OUT OF EXISTENCE OR BUST.

20.11.2025 05:05 β€” πŸ‘ 13    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I still would like to see some data on how many β€œdriverful” trips are people basically deadheading because they’re coming back from dropping kids off or making superfluous trips that could be chained.

I remain unconvinced that shared mobility can possibly be worse than the status quo.

Ok so my position is that in fact it does largely negate the awesomeness because the externalities are in fact so massive (and still largely unrealized) that the average human would probably have been better off without it.

19.11.2025 18:02 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

How should one interpret β€œdo not negate?”

19.11.2025 17:56 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

There’s an easy way to find out.

Legalize walkable neighborhoods everywhere. Equalize subsidy for walkable neighborhoods and transit with what we have subsidized for cars.

β€œEveryone” as always is the fallacy here. There is incredible latent demand to drive less.

19.11.2025 17:56 β€” πŸ‘ 14    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

You might not be tallying the costs up entirely. Private cars owned by the vast majority of the population is, indeed; very very bad.

19.11.2025 17:53 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

parking mandates are ridiculous, incl. in Chicago

assume a "-3" zoning district, and ignore transit-related rules that eliminate parking requirements:

- theater with 149 seats: no parking required
- indoor pickleball w/space for 149 people: 15 spaces

do infinitely more people drive to pickleball?

why do Wheaton and Bolingbrook calculate elementary school parking requirements based on the number of *children who cannot drive* and whose parents will not be parking at the school after dropping them off

it looks like no city in Illinois can agree on the best way to calculate how much parking an elementary school should provide

In France they’ve got automated meter maids now – Waymo-looking cars that fine you if you don’t feed the meter. This article says that while a human can check a few dozen cars per hour, these can check up to 1,500 in an hour leocare.eu/fr/blog/sulf...
