I agree with all of this (the whole thread not just this post) except for one thing: I don't think Netanyahu's help was unintentional, unfortunately.

Last night my spouse got to see the aurora borealis at the lake, while I was at @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social watching Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, so I think we both managed to see impossible acts of beauty.

I loved the pilot of It: Welcome to Derry, but for me the most horrific thing that happened was when the one kid's dad threw a copy of the original Flash of Two Worlds comic across the room.

Saw a trailer for Hamnet today, and it looks good and I'm going to see it, but there was a detail that really bugged me. In the trailer, we see Hamnet quoting Macbeth. Hamnet died in 1596, and most scholars believe Macbeth wasn't written until 1603.

I teach a class on the history of superheroes and I cover it briefly because of how it led to the comics code and how that changed superhero comics, but because they aren't actually superhero comics we don't read any of them for coursework.

My first piece of useless pop culture paraphernalia in the new place. He came with so many chains I couldn't figure out how to get them on him! The long chain is supposed to connect to his hands somehow but I couldn't get them to fit.

I'm at a friend's house where there are a ton of trick or treaters. My favorites so far have been Tanuki Mario, Larry Bird, a box of Tic Tacs, and Anthony Rapp

One of my dream projects that I know will sadly never be realized is that I would absolutely love to adapt "It's a bird..." into a stage play. There is no way in hell that WB would allow the use of the Superman IP in this way, so I know it will never happen, but it would be so good...

If that was the case then the smart move would have been to go and get it covered up or lasered off as soon as he sobered up, but instead he waited until there was an outcry. He might not actually be a Nazi, but he clearly didn't think it was a big deal and that's disqualifying enough.

Is this a typo or did he actually say "sounded law"? My spouse is sleeping so I'm not going to play the video to check.

Once defined by Talmudic rigor and prophetic courage, the American rabbinate has become paralyzed by prestige and fear. What began as a sacred calling has devolved into an industry of moral management and polite press releases. As antisemitism explodes and Jewish insecurity deepens, too many rabbis have chosen comfort over conscience, substituting activism for Halacha and sentiment for strength. The time has come to restore a rabbinate unafraid to judge, to lead, and to tell the truth β€” five minutes early, not five minutes too late.

This transformation began when American Judaism, in its liberal denominations, redefined the rabbi not as a jurist but as a social worker of faith. The result is a class of leaders fluent in politics but illiterate in psak. Instead of Talmudic analysis, we get press statements about β€œshared values.” Instead of the authority to decide, we get the anxiety to offend.

There’s a difference between a rabbi who teaches Torah and one who tweets about tolerance. The former is a teacher of law; the latter, a manager of public mood. And law β€” fundamental Jewish law β€” requires courage, not consensus.

They turned Judaism into a brand of American moral liberalism β€” replacing Mosaic law with progressive platitudes, dressing up secular activism in tallitot, and mistaking Democratic politics for Jewish ethics. Reform and Conservative Judaism could have modernized without sacrificing the halakhic backbone that enabled Jewish continuity. Instead, they hollowed it out.

The Jerusalem Post says American Jews aren't real Jews because we're too tolerant and too liberal.

I'm not joking.

My father actually did have "the talk" with me, but it happened probably earlier than most people. I was 7 or 8, and he had to explain it as part of also explaining to me what an "affair" was in the conversation about why he had left mom and was getting a divorce.

When I was a teenager (and already sexually active), my mother said "You know the deal, right? I just have to say two things: always keep it covered, and never do it on my bed." Words to live by.

There were three particularly compelling set pieces for meβ€”a ridiculous violent scuffle between three characters for a gun, a beautiful dance sequence at a fancy-dress party, and a heartbreaking monologue in a shoe store.

Definitely highly recommended.

If I had to find a more mainstream property with a similar tone and style, I think the closest would be the TV show Breaking Bad.

After a little while, though, I found myself settling in to the unique style and found it really effective. This movie will make you laugh, wince, and cry in rapid succession without time to catch your breath, and it's thrilling.

At first I wasn't sure if I was enjoying the film at the beginning, because I didn't realize it was going to be a comedy, and because I felt like there was a strange tonal whiplash between moments of humor, moments of violence, and moments of sincere connection between people.
