interesting that it's taken as a given that the US should have a hand in shaping who the iranian people choose as their leader

So, in launching a huge bombing campaign on Iran they apparently didn't plan for:

- Who takes over;
- Interceptor shortages from sustained drone retaliation;
- How to defend US bases in the region;
- Threats to ships in the Strait of Hormuz; and
- How to evacuate Americans with airspace closed.

Sadly, it is an appropriate time to re-up this thread.

Among all the other terrible things about this war, gasoline is about to become much more expensive for families that have been give too few alternatives.

If Talarico's primary advantages over Crockett are that he's a whie man and she ain't, that doesn't mean he's the more capable politician.

In fact, if Crockett is competing with him on relatively even terms, without those unearned advantages, doesn't that mean she's the more capable politician?

If Talarico is the only viable path to neutralizing the Senate, then yeah, he's going to need all the support he can get.

But how would we know he's the only viable path if we don't contest the primary vigorously? Which means being honest about the impact of race.

Voting Talarico could help neutralize the Senate this time around, if he wins. But no way is he more of a dagger in the heart of Christian ethnonationalism than Crockett.

If she wins the primary and the general, is that not a more potent show of strength than electing the white man in the middle?

We're not just talking about Christian nationalism, we're talking about Christian ethnonationalism.

"I have an easier time supporting Talarico because Texans aren't ready for a Black woman Senator" is synonymous with "because he's a white man."

Look, I get the "we need to think strategically in a crisis" piece. But I think white people endorsing Talarico need to do more to own it that Crockett being a Black woman is a problem for them.

Biggest beneficiaries seem to be Hopkins and Peltola. Matti seems like a completely different player. He ate tonight.
