Perhaps the gleeful embrace/promotion of AI by the powerful might have something to do w/not only increasing their fortunes & skirting actual workers, but the prospect that it can at last manufacture the narratives they have been pushing for generations.

People who accept the truth simply on the authority of others are prone to shift full responsibility to such authority for their own thought and behavior. In civil affairs some prefer to follow a dictator blindly rather than to assume the responsibilities of citizenship imposed by a democracy. In the classroom some students prefer to parrot back the words of professor or textbook rather than do their own original and creative thinking. In religion some people to follow blindly their leaders, who they believe will guarantee their salvation. Blind, submissive followers in any field, be it in government, science, or religion, lack the ability to discriminate between truth and error, good and evil, and between the weightier and lesser matters of the law. They hardly have a soul to call their own.
