Due to that chance encounter with the knight, he had been ever so grateful, even becoming a squire of Everlast to pay his respects to his mentor. But back then, and even now, Vern’s mind would often wander about his past. If not for the fated meeting with the prestigious knight, would he have even come so far? Along with that thought, a tinge of guilt loomed over his heart. For what reason, so? The seniors of Everlast knew very well. Vern becoming the current captain of Everlast wasn’t purely out of his own hard work, but from a simple fatal mistake that cost the life of someone dear to him. “Aha... I’m someone who’s incompetent in actuality,” Vern chuckled. “I failed to protect what I loved. You know, I wonder... If my current strength could have even changed the outcome back then.” Despite his lingering regrets, Vern knew very well that his mentor, a father-like figure to him, didn’t ever wish to see him in such a state. His sense of justice didn’t just appear out of nowhere. Rather, it was strengthened through the hardships and despair that he had faced. Vern is what he is today due to that. The Knight of Flaming Heart, the one who pushes forward with courage and warmth. To follow in the footsteps of his mentor and to carry on his will, that is what he must do.

The two of you are Guild Rankers, right? Please excuse the discourtesy from my colleagues earlier. They have... Well, a different view on this whole matter. But, rest assured, we always appreciate a helping hand!” Vern. A self-righteous knight with his own sense of justice. Said to be a commoner from birth, Vern has built himself up to where he stands today through hard work and rigorous training. With an undying will that serves to fan the flames of his own justice, no matter how things would go, this Knight of Everlast won’t ever be fazed by what’s thrown at him. A losing battle or not, he will withstand the oncoming pressure and persevere until the very end. That is just how Vern is. A man who would bring about his own will to fruition through kindness and bravery.

Some say that solely because of Vern, the knighthood of Everlast has become one of the most popular knighthoods to join, even creeping up to the popularity of Royale Blue. — Passage #2 In comparison to his fellow colleagues and knights, Vern can be said to be one of the few to have paved a path ahead for the new generation. He had earned himself not one, but two titles after only serving as a knight of Everlast for two years. The first? It was the title of being the youngest captain in Libria's history. For such a young knight to have become a captain at such an age compared to his peers, it only meant constant responsibilities and burdens. However, for the young Vern of that time, it was nothing but a walk in the park for him. After all, he had already been carrying a heavy burden since his childhood. What’s more to add to that weight? This attitude of his, in turn, led Vern to earn the title of “The Flaming Heart”, representing courage and warmth. The courage to lead his people to enter the fray without fear, and the warmth of a good-hearted person, shielding others from the bitter cold. A good representation of who Vern is.

— Passage #3 “Captain Vern? He’s the best! Though... I do wish he would talk more about himself when he’s around us,” Scarlet, a Knight of Everlast, lamented. “He’s always so cool, and I love the praises he gives us! But, he always feels so distant, you know? Even the other senior knights aren’t like that. Captain Vern... I wonder what’s on his mind sometimes?” A hard-working knight who never fails to put on a smile in front of others. That is what most of Vern’s colleagues describe him to be. Despite facing hardship time and time again, he had never once wavered. Yet, despite the face he would typically put on for others, some could tell that he seemed to be rather troubled. This was especially true whenever Vern was sighted staring absent-mindedly at the old training halls of Everlast. If anyone were to ask Vern about his troubles, he would always pass it off as just their imagination. However, though he may have tried his best to hide his true feelings, everyone in Everlast knew. They just could never bring themselves to ask.

That news should’ve long since reached your ears,” Vern laughed. “I don’t quite remember who my parents were, but...” As his words began to trail off, Vern absent-mindedly stared out into the entrance of the training hall. “There was this one guardian who cared for me ever since I was young. So... What I’m doing now isn’t for the sake of my own will, but... For his.” The Captain of Everlast, a commoner at birth. Some knights in the knighthood were unhappy with his background, oftentimes questioning his legitimacy in becoming a captain. Even as loyal knights to Libria, the prejudice among commoners and nobles was no different in this country. Long before Vern had become a squire to Everlast, he was a wandering vagrant, a mercenary, aimless and led astray. It was a life that he had lived not of his own volition. The privilege of choice was but a dream. Without anyone to have his back, he had to do whatever he could to survive. Yet even back then, his own sense of justice was as strong as it was now. He lived by his own code, and perhaps that was the reason why light had reached his eyes. A knight as warm as the sun itself. Indeed. During his days of aimless wandering as a mercenary, he chanced upon a meeting with a prestigious knight who had changed his life’s trajectory forever. It was the previous captain of Everlast, someone who had saved him from the darkness. If not for him, he may as well have walked down the path of no return. To him, this knight was his saviour. A mentor and a father-like figure to him.

Oh! But I guess I could post this, it's a character profile, gacha-style inspired. This character is from a novel of mine that's on the back burner for the time being (hoping to one day continue it, though!)

Sadly, I don't have anything much to show at the moment about my writing (this is because most of my stuff is affiliated with a different name). BUT what I can tell you is that I pretty much specialize in writing about characters. I LOVE writing about interactions! The small ones and the big ones.
