I only have this cheap repress, and say to myself buy a copy with original artwork, a nice Japanese copy, but then I play it and it really is decent sounding, and it's to be listened to, not looked at. Either way Helen is the best.

Young Disciples Road To Freedom

The Young Disciples Road to Freedom still sounds remarkably fresh for an album 35 years old. The Freedom Suite in particular - part 3 dropping Hercules throughout. Oh my, great album title and sleeve art, deserves a place up there with the finest!

Good news. I like AB, particularly Enderby. I've never read Ulysses, though i am cheating with the audiobook, which makes it less daunting. Sounds like an excellent day in my book!

Book of the day. Here Comes Everybody - Anthony Burgess on James Joyce.

Mort met Brel in Paris mid 60s, adapted his songs, inspiring Scott Walker and made the amazing and off it's face My Death album. They should behave.

Another fave album cover. Photography, design. Dexter in the bottom right hand corner rather than centre. Very European looking too, maybe it's the beret? Fabulous album, Bobby Hutcherson on vibes. A cover of Who Can I Turn To? (any album with it on is worth a listen imo). Anyway, mellow...np

Never seen the single either! Weird it's never been reissued, there is usually a Japanese reissue of these sort of albums, or maybe a Spanish Fresh Sounds. Nowt.

Which reminds me, I'd love to find a copy of Miss Toni Fisher's The Big Hurt album...

NP a now super clean copy. It changes, but I think this is possibly my favourite of the 4. The arrangements are quite something, Tony Bennett on a downer.

There is in our local charity shop. They call it old and interesting, or to you and me - really bloody expensive!

They were great days. When I do see those books now they're always overpriced so no-one is going to buy them. A lot of those authors are 90% out of print these days. I now belong to a bygone era haha!

They really don't look like they sound. All part of the charm.

NP. Bit hit and miss. But did a band look better? Love that symbol or hi-hat (I'm not technical) in the bottom right. It looks almost flying saucer.

Anyway, further back, those late 80s charity shop days of Pan and Penguin paperbacks 5 for a quid, a world of reading and self education. Magical.

Alan Sillitoe. A highlight him phoning me at home to discuss his writing career. I wrote my IS on Loneliness..., A Start in Life, and The Broken Chariot. He ended up grilling me. He didn't have long left as it turned out, still invited me down to visit him, something I regret not doing.

The cover is so glossy it's impossible to take a photo of, so this is a google image. Released as a Tone Poem a couple of years back, it's an immense sounding reissue of an immense sounding album. Perfect.

A fave Gary Leeds pic. Crap drummer. Without who, no Brothers, no 1-4, no Nite Flites, no middle-aged men seeking Philips albums at huge cost. Legend.
