Hi, we are studying the history and archaeology of a small farmstead called Under Whitle in #Sheen, #Staffordshire. We have uncovered so much it's been rather overwhelming at times! Next month we have a team of specialists coming to undertake a programme of #OpticallyStimulatedLuminesence dating.

Quaternary people, I need to source a high-resolution graphics file of an up-to-date Marine Isotope curve? One I can use at two different resolution, one 1,000,000 to present, the other 100,000 to present. Any idea where to look? Has anything definitively replaced Railsback? 🦣

Now we have the funding for the #OSL project we had a walk over some of the target fields. Say hello to (l-r) Margaret (treasurer) Carolyn (sec) and Elspeth (chair) of the Tudor Farming Interpretation Group.

So, we're now starting to plan for the programme of OSL dating which will hopefully shed light (geddit? 😁) on the development of the field system here at Under Whitle in the Upper Dove Valley. We have pollen evidence from the 7th century CE, now we want to know where! #OSL #Archaeology #Environment

We're very happy to announce we have been successful! So, our thanks to the Peak District National Park Authority who manage #FiPL. Research on the farm. continues, we have completed the Pollen Project and are now planning to use Optical Stimulation Luminescence to date some of the earthwork features such as lynchets and ridge & furrow to see if we can trace the growth of the field system here in the Middle Ages (600-1500 CE).

It's that stressful time... Trying to complete a grant application from! We're hoping to get funding for a programme of OSL dating. 🤞

Last Thursday we held a study day/workshop with a range of specialists about the project and the amazing results we have from the palynological analysis of a peat bog on the farm. We had historians, archaeologists and environmental specialists for the whole day and what a great exchange of ideas!
