The last verse always makes me choke up.

Science communication tramp. I’ve been an informal science educator and vaccine advocate long enough to know that anti-science is not partisan. People show us who they are by who they choose to represent them.
The last verse always makes me choke up.

I know how that feels. My back can’t handle doing park restoration or mud safaris.
I didn’t even know the aquarium was an option until I signed up for Salish Sea Steward training. That was a couple of years after we moved to Anacortes.
Maybe something available in Kent or Des Moine areas?
Now follow *that* up with robots *plus* Fritz Lang:

The Shill Gambit is also employed against climate scientists. Somehow, #ClimateChange deniers think that researchers are paid to produce false data.
They’re told this by people like Bell and Sanger who sell their PhD credentials to energy and tobacco companies.
Ah, yes. The “Shill Gambit.”
Perhaps the most favored tactic of #science deniers.
Used by #antivaxxers who cite those “experts” who sell pseudoscience products on their sites, get paid to speak at antiscience events and make propaganda films.
Like Wakefield, Baylock, Mercola, Humphries.
We’ll die, but we’ll be laughing.

Easily one of the greatest movie soundtracks ever composed.
Basil Poledouris so perfectly captured the primal essence of the world Robert Howard created for the Conan stories.
Being able to rein in one’s ego to help others achieve, is its own mark of greatness.

I was there from 2012-18, the 1st year as a volunteer.
My main schtick was viruses & vaccines.
And yes, it was the most fulfilling thing I’ve ever done.
Currently, I volunteer at the little aquarium attached to the Dept of Ecology Estuary Research facility near Bay View Park in Anacortes.
We would occasionally have Moon Snail egg casings at the touch tank in Pacific Science Center, because people thought they were rubber trash, and throw them in the garbage.
My favorite thing to do was wait until the kids had been handling it, then explain how it’s made of sand, eggs and butt snot.
The fine line between parody and plagiarism.

It’s really not fair to say that MAGAts hate science and education.
They’re all for education that they control, and love applications of science that kill the people they don’t like.
This is the beginnings of their indoctrination to teach children the David Barton version of U.S. history in those textbooks that The Right has been trying to foist into public schools for decades.
We used to revile China, Viet Nam and the Soviets for this kind of revisionist reeducation.
The title rings a bell, but I don’t recall reading any other of his books. I’ll look into that; thanks.

Pub trivia question, several months ago, asked who played James Bond in the 1960’s movie version of Casino Royale.
Judging from the reaction from almost everyone else, including my teammates, only a couple of us in the place had ever even seen it.
These men made what Graham, and other Republicans, call “a noble sacrifice.”
But that sacrifice has now been rendered meaningless by Republicans and their voters embracing everything that these Americans gave their lives to protect us against.
Republicans didn’t “forget.”
They never gave a damn.
And now we know how Doctor Doom afforded all that scientific gear: hawkin’ T-shirts.

Love the looks of the kiddies’ faces, and some adults, when I describe how the sea cucumber pukes its guts up in the face of whatever’s tryin’ to eat it.
Gotta get the sound effects and hand gestures right ta really sell it.

Almost skipped facilitating at the aquarium today; my mood was so dark from this morning’s news.
Glad I did go in.
Really needed the distraction and a chance to interact with people, face-to-face, about #science.
Think they needed it, too.
Even before there was MAGA, I dealt with idjits who paid $20 to come into a science center, just to argue against the #science.
In every single instance, they wound up having a meltdown, then stormed off.
These people don’t want to learn.
They just want to win a fight.
#Antivaxxers telling me that scientists can’t be trusted bc they’re in the pocket of “Big Pharma”…
…then citing Joseph Mercola who quit medicine to get rich selling generic vitamins and getting paid to speak at #antivaxxer events.
Many of the Republicans who have been aiding, abetting and protecting him, have been in our House and our Senate long before Trump; re-elected numerous times by conservative voters who are so easily manipulated by fear, by hate and by Republicans’ pseudopatriot theatrics and christian cosplay.
