More than 75,000 Post readers cancelled their subscriptions after the recent cuts. An even larger number bailed after Bezos killed the endorsement of Harris, but now the decline feels terminal. Bezos does not want a great paper with a conservative opinion page (like the Wall Street Journal). He seemingly barely wants a paper at all, treating one of the most important American media institutions like an embarrassing child from a previous marriage that no longer fits his lifestyle.

This sounds unbelievable but its true: since Bezos acquired The Post, his wealth has grown tenfold and the Post has been cut in half.

Thanks to a crucial Supreme Court decision on its shadow docket that authorized immigration officers to racially profile people they thought might be undocumented, Operation Metro Surge saw officers target anyone — citizen or not — who wasn’t white for questioning, detention or, in many cases, brutal treatment. ICE began going door-to-door in predominantly minority neighborhoods to ask where residents were born, sometimes dragging them out of their homes at gunpoint. Officers indiscriminately fired pepper spray and tear gas at residents, including into the car of a family, hospitalizing a baby. “What that did was have an incredibly chilling effect on how people move about our communities,” said Richard Carlbom, chairman of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party. “There are U.S. citizens who are Black, brown or Asian who won’t leave their house and we have to deliver food to them on a weekly basis because they’re afraid of being detained.”

Russia took 245 sq km in January, nearly half of December figures. Pokrovsk saw 33% of assaults, Huliaipole 21% with attacks up 1.75x. Slovyansk had just 3% of assaults but 20% of territorial losses, DeepState reports.

This is also, btw, a cross-national pattern. Mark Carney is also part of it. Confronted with the actual malevolent incompetence of far right authoritarianism, clear majorities of voters recoil & realize, even if only belatedly, that they don’t actually want that after all.
