So sad to hear Trouble in Mind has ceased operations. If you don't have the two Guardian Singles records I highly recommend. guardiansingles.bandcamp.com/album/feed-m...

24.07.2025 16:19 โ ๐ 976 ๐ 141 ๐ฌ 19 ๐ 1I don't like to speak badly of people. I have grown up thinking and being told that if you cannot say something nice about someone, you should not say anything at all. But I must break that rule in this case because I hate Hulk Hogan very much. He is a big ugly goon and I want to squash his face. -Andre the Giant

So here's a Rose City Band tape from last night in Metro Detroit! Super fun & great vibes.

And yet Mike Love is still alive.
11.06.2025 19:36 โ ๐ 46 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 4 ๐ 0To quote @anazgnos.bsky.social: "If only weโd had some way of getting closure and saying our goodbyes four or five separate times over the past 21 years"
19.05.2025 19:00 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Gilmore appeared as himself in Peter Bogdanovich's 1993 film The Thing Called Love, a love story about young songwriters in Nashville. He also had a small but memorable acting role in the 1998 movie The Big Lebowski. He portrayed a bowler named "Smokey," an aging, emotionally "fragile" pacifist threatened with a pistol by "Walter Sobchak," "The Dude" Lebowski's best friend and sidekick (John Goodman). In 2013, he appeared in Parkland.
Gilmore is a native of the Texas Panhandle, having been born in Amarillo, Texas, and raised in Lubbock, Texas. His earliest musical influence was Hank Williams and the honky tonk brand of country music that his father played. In the 1950s, he was exposed to the emerging rock and roll of other Texans such as Roy Orbison and Lubbock native Buddy Holly, as well as to Johnny Cash. He was profoundly influenced in the 1960s by The Beatles and Bob Dylan and the folk music and blues revival in that decade. 'After Awhile' (Elektra Musician, 1991) was Jimmie Dale Gilmore's third solo album, produced by Stephen Bruton; released in 1991 as his debut album for Elektra Nonesuch, "a subtle, unforced masterpiece that captures Gilmore at the subtle peak of his abilities" (Mark Deming, All Music Guide)
'Fair & Square' (Hightone, 1988) was the debut solo album by Jimmie Dale Gilmore, produced by Joe Ely. Ten years later, in April 1998, when I was in Austin for the SXSW music conference (I was a panelist on the "Who Shot Bobby Fuller" panel), Bobby Fuller's brother Randy invited me to go with him to his friend Joe Ely's ranch, south of Austin, TX, for a little BBQ. I ended up sitting around a bonfire while Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Butch Hancock and a handful of their friends -- there couldn't have been more than twenty people there, tops -- sang songs and played guitars. One of the more memorable private music experiences of my life!!
Jimmie Dale Gilmore (still kickin' back and kickin' ass at 80) with Dave Alvin, 2025
Mark it 80, Dude! Happy Birthday to country singer-songwriter, record producer and actor Jimmie Dale Gilmore, born May 6, 1945, in Amarillo, TX! He's also a helluva bowler but his foot tends to stray over the line. He's on tour w/ Dave Alvin and just played a big birthday show in Austin (5/4/2025).
