What can you do with languages? Open doors to new worlds.
Broker peace or strike deals. Bring stories, science and sport to every corner of the globe. See history through fresh eyes. Turn strangers into friends. Connect, persuade, inspire. The better question? What can’t you do with languages?

Hi, I'm a translator who works for a United Nations agency. As you know, every country needs trained multilinguals & it's impossible to become fluent in a language via ChatGPT. Or DuoLingo. Or Zoom classes. Fluency in a language requires immersion in its grammar & vocabulary, its history & culture.

πŸ“£Important podcast on the value of speaking other languages πŸ‘‡

The conversation looks at how the languages we speak influence how we think & affect how we relate to others. It explores how multilingualism can foster social cohesion, support cognitive flexibility, & even boost economic opportunities.

Why learning language is child’s play Children have an innate ability to learn foreign accents that is lost as they grow up... but is it always an advantage?

Schools shd have been working to improve language teaching, not opting out bcos kids found it 'too hard'. I was able to do French, Latin, Ancient Greek & some Italian in state schools 40-odd yrs ago. Sadly, language learning is increasingly the preserve of privileged minority in private schools.

RCN formally responds to Cardiff University’s proposed closure of its School of Nursing | Royal College of Nursing The College is very disappointed and strongly opposes the proposals, which were announced without prior consultation, warning that it poses serious risks to nurse academics, student members, patients,...

Just a reminder that Cardiff University is proposing to cut 400 academic staff and drop nursing, ancient history, modern languages, music and religion altogether - all this while opening a new campus in Kazakhstan at the same time.

Yep. Me neither. 🀯
