Parking in Dublin City: should it be made more difficult?
Should employers offer cash alternatives instead of free parking to staff to get people out of their cars? Green Party Cllr David Healy, of Fingal County Council thinks so and he explained why toβ¦
Thanks to Claire Byrne of Newstalk for our discussion of parking cash out law, where employers who offer car parking must offer a cash alternative. Giving people this option leads to a 30% shift away from driving to work.

Head 12 Exemption from the Act of 2015
Provide that:
Any function or exercise undertaken under this Act shall be exempt from the provisions of section 15 of the Act of 2015.
Explanatory Note
This Head provides that the provisions of section 15 of the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act 2015 do not apply to any functions or exercises undertaken under this Bill.
An appalling proposal is hidden at the end of the Governmentβs Bill on the airport cap; it would exclude decisions under the legislation from the current obligation on almost all public bodies to consider their climate impact and to be consistent with climate objectives.

βItβs not that the people who live there donβt have cars,β he says. βItβs that the neighbourhood is not a car park, and the car parking is on the edge.β

The Settlement Capacity Audit underestimates residential capacity by between 2,500 and 3,000 units, omitting 3 sites (Blanchardstown, Santry) with full permission (1511 units) and Kellystown (1000 to 1500 units) where the Council will seek approval this year for the access road

Apartment-dwellers in Fingal should be able to get resident parking permits for their area, councillor argues
During a debate Monday over new parking bye-laws, which raise the cost of parking in the county from 1 February.
A strange car parking rule is in @fingal.ie bye-laws which discriminates against people living in apartments rather than houses, not in any way connected to whether they have access to off-street parking. We've agreed to start the process of changing it.

A new era of fossil fuels to facilitate data centres?
Reaction to the CRU policy in relation to data centre connections
Ireland's energy regulator finally published its data centre connection policy. It facilitates a new era of fossil growth to facilitate this enormous energy user.

In the reconsideration of my appeal, the applicant produced a detailed demolition justification report. I welcome that and ask the Commission to apply expert analysis to it. I also ask ACP to require pedestrian permeability by condition, and to refuse the additional road again. davidhealy.com?p=1899

John Gibbons: A big freeze could turn the Irish into climate refugees
We should reflect on 'get-tough' proposals on immigration: If the Amoc currents that moderate Irelandβs climate fail, temperatures will plunge, making grass-based agriculture impossible
An Amoc shutdown later this century could see millions of Irish people become #climate migrants; this is something our politicians talking tough on cracking down on migration to Ireland should keep in mind, as I discuss in today's @irishexaminer.bsky.social
