First draft of "The Seventh Fire" completed. 35 days of writing every day. Just shy of 85k words. 25 chapters. Now it rests until the new year, then the editing "fun" begins! #AmWriting #WritingCommunity

And the assumption is abundance (our at least sufficiency) rather than scarcity. Instead creating (often false) scarcity, that work together to assure abundance. Utopian? Maybe, but other indigenous cultures have had a similar basis to their society. 2/2

A society where people respect their place in nature. A society that rejects not only capitalism but the entire transactional framework where value is based on scarcity and need. The overarching ethic is what will make things better 7 generations from now? 1/2

It's a peri-apocalyptic novel. Set in the near future before the collapse of civilization from climate change-caused pressures, with the protagonists working to create a new society that might survive without repeating the mistakes of the past.

WIP Update: 76k words in November. Still writing every day, but nearing the end now. Will probably end up a tad over 80k. #AmWriting #WritingCommunity

WIP update: over 66k words in, and the story is still flowing, keeping to the basic track. Have written every day this month, hope to continue that, even with Thanksgiving (though probably not many words Thursday). #AmWriting #WritingCommunity

Another chapter done in the WIP. Over 53k words now this month. I'm liking this story far more than is usual at this point. Might even do more than shelve this year's November writing.... #amwriting #WritingCommunity

Yeah. I think we use sugar and cornstarch in the mix to combine with the juices for a kind of sauce, and then flour, sugar and butter combined to make crumbs to put over the top for a crumble topping. You could use brown sugar for either if you want that flavor. Maybe some nutmeg or cinnamon, too.

WIP update: crossed the nominal November goal of 50k words tonight (over 5,700 today). Still more to write. Hoping to finish the draft this month, but we'll see. Best guess is somewhere in the 80-100k range, but that could change. #AmWriting #WritingCommunity

We don't do marshmallows or anything too sweet. Typically bake the sweet potatoes with apples and a flour and brown sugar crumble that is only moderately sweet. Sweetness is mostly reserved for dessert - pie and ice cream (á la mode). Carrots may be roasted along with other veggies, but savory.

So many Yiddish words are best illustrated by use. My fav which shows both denotation and conotation: "I went on a camel ride and the filthy idiots said they were all girl camels, but I know they gave me a boy camel. Everywhere I went people pointed and said 'Look at the shmuck on that camel!'" 😄

Yes, but I think I'd write more essays and short stories than novels.

I'm guessing 80-100k. Kind of depends on how it flows and if my characters have more surpluses for me. I know the general arc of the story, but the rest is up to them 😄

Closing in on the 50k goal, probably make it this weekend. Might have another 30-50k left in this draft. Hope to finish it this month.

A peri-apocalyptic novel about a small group planning for how a new society might survive after works collapse from climate crisis and live in a more sustainable, non-capitalistic way, learning from many indigenous cultures.

I self-published with Ingram Spark. It does considerably less hand-holding and requires a certain knowledge and sophistication from the author, but gets you into the Ingram distribution chain so available to any bookstore or library. Does multi-platform e-books, too (Kindle, Nook, etc).
