The Ford government's dismantling of Ontario's $15 million wastewater monitoring program was always about politics and not public health.

The Nation That Trump Could Never Break Canada didn’t just resist, they reminded the rest of us how to endure

β€œβ€¦this morning, from a war zone half a world away, I was reading about your election. And for the first time in days, I exhaled.

A small, almost invisible breath. Relief.

And then came gratitude…

You didn’t just choose kindness or experience…

You chose not to flirt with fascism.”

From Ukraine.

6/ I'm dismayed at the election of CPC candidates with extreme anti-science views, including those I mentioned before: Leslyn Lewis, Dean Allison, Roman Baber, and Matt Strauss in Ontario. They're a sign that Canada is ripe for the anti-science destructive populists we see in the US.

Doug Ford's Therme boondoggle at Ontario Place has always looked sketchy, now it smells even worse. Conservatives and Corruption both start with the letter C, especially in Ontario.

COVID-19 may put patients at risk for other infections for at least 1 year

This is just one example of the mounting anti-science wave taking place within Canadian conservative governments. Ontario disbanded the Science Table during the pandemic, closed the Science Centre, and in Alberta the govt published a widely mocked faux pandemic report rife with disinformation.

As I write this, the conservative government of Doug Ford is silent about the large measles outbreak, he gutted Public Health, and his CMOH is nothing but a muted political appointee who is not doing his fiduciary duty.

12.04.2025 09:34 β€” πŸ‘ 140    πŸ” 54    πŸ’¬ 5    πŸ“Œ 10

We know from testing obvious symptomatic measles cases that measles is spreading after the fact. Wastewater surveillance would have more properly identified infections much earlier, more completely, and better framed the scale of activity.

Amid Canada's largest measles outbreak in more than a decade, experts say this COVID-era tool could help | CBC News As Canada deals with its largest measles outbreak in more than a decade, health experts say a COVID-era tool could help tame the spread.

As I warned repeatedly last July, the foolhardy cancellation of the world class and inexpensive Ontario wastewater surveillance program was a mistake. I cautioned that we would be less prepared as new infectious disease risks rose during the winter. #measles #H5N1

Measles is highly contagious, the best way to control the spread is to ensure that over 95% of the community is immunized against the virus. Failure to do so will lead to this sort of ongoing outbreak. 61 have been hospitalized, eventually the growing numbers will lead to a death, likely a child.

Now 816 #measles cases in Ontario from outbreak, up 155 in week.
"The sharp increase in the number of outbreak cases and the geographic spread in recent weeks is
due to continued exposures and transmission among individuals who have not been immunized."
