yep, but the glass is clean (besides yellow) and moves smoothly. I've been guessing it works fine. The person who did this did a tidy job labeling the focus scale, so it seemed like a safe bet that they made it functional again.
It was only $10 for 3 m42 lenses that are all similar! 😅

The front of a super-tak 50 1.4 with evidence of some pretty destructive past disassembly.
Meh. Pretty yellow.
But here’s what the overall front of the lens looks like. 🤣

yep!
I got this at the local camera shop's garage sale. It included a bunch of collections acquired by their used purchaser. There were some clear themes visible, including a bunch of m42 lenses that had all been opened and had their beauty rings damaged, before reassembly. This was one of them.😅

Thanks! Daughter enjoyed this process, but was annoyed it wasn’t clearer. Wanted to clean the viewing lens, and so we talked about ground glass also why it’s dim! 😅

Black and white long exposure photo of a climbing gym.
Another long exposure of a climbing gym. There is almost no one visible because it’s a long exposure. Despite there being a lot of people present.
One more black and white photo looking down at the busy climbing gym which looks empty because it is such a long exposure.

Pixel mode closeup photo of a bearded man making a funny face.
A slightly less weird pixel mode portrait of a bearded man.
Low quality (because it’s the Charmera) regular color photo of a bearded man in a hat holding a 130yo camera on a tripod.
Another portrait of the same man holding a different camera.

More portraits by daughter, enjoying the charms of the Charmera on an astonishingly gorgeous evening.

Yes. This was made to shoot glass plates and you CAN get glass plates for it.
But it’s pretty pricey to shoot a full “magazine” of plates!
I shoot it with photo paper and make paper negatives. Still makes awesome photos but waaaay cheaper if shooting 12 exp!😅

I could cut up film. Just havent! Only slightly trickier than paper. I have the locations marked by tape so I can do it by feel with my paper cutter.
But it's still hard to beat the cost effectiveness of paper. 🤷♂️ And Id have to process in trays in the dark, too.
I quite like the look of paper.🤷♂️

Made for glass plates, but ive yet to shoot it with plates (though both Zebra and J. Lane/Pictorigraphica will make the custom size it takes). I just shoot it with paper for paper negatives. Pro - super cheap to shoot a full magazine. Con - Paper is slow so I am limited to timed exposures. 😅

Zebra Dry Plate Tintypes Archives | Zebra Dry Plates
Zebra makes dry-tintypes? Hard to nail, but when you do they do give that visceral feeling of true tintypes.

I would post an example, but I wouldn't want to compare something Ive shot to the above! 😅🥰
