Trust me, there’s no joy in having called where we are now back in 2001. The point of the story of Cassandra isn’t that she was HAPPY to be right. It’s frustrating, infuriating, and causes despair and depression. Yet people think I’m bragging when I point out the ways that all of this was predicted.

I am reminded of when I trained jiu jitsu. People would ask the instructor “how do I defend this” (locked in submission). The answer was “don’t get in that position.” I’ve been saying the same things for years (authoritarian creep, corporate fascism, etc.) The response needed to happen 20 years ago.

I am again reminded that, when people talk politics with me, they don’t want to hear my thoughts - they want me to reassure them everything will be okay and there’s an obvious way to make everything better without sacrificing anything substantial. I keep forgetting this which is why suck at parties.
