Staff at West Virginia federal prison resign after retention pay cuts in federal prisons Recruitment and retention pay that has been used to address severe staff shortages at federal prisons across the country is being cut, according to the American Federation of Government Employees.

Here we go…

Implications include the need for greater scrutiny of search warrant applications and consideration of high effort, often invasive law enforcement tactics/units.

New study with @bethgriffiths.bsky.social, Kay Levine, and Joshua Hinkle I which we find lack of a relationship between law enforcement effort and yield from search warrants in drug cases.

Yesterday ~68 people employed in HHS's Administration for Children & Families early childhood offices were terminated. I'm told Office of Head Start lost ~20% of staff; Office of Child Care lost ~25%
These workers process grants for preschools/childcare centers, monitor health/safety issues, etc.

The law enforcement side of DOJ gets a lot of attention, but DOJ also houses the Office of Justice Programs, which pours millions of dollars annually into research and technical assistance that promote safety. Evidence-based approaches to crime will suffer greatly if OJP is gutted/careerists leave.
