#interlaceincluded #beautifulbook. For years, I could stand alongside the Worms Bible and look over her shoulder while Aliza Mushlin-Cohen worked on her PhD dissertation on it, and I worked on mine on the 9th-century Royal Bible.
I think it's worth standing up to big books of their stature. Agree?

A rock wrapped in brown leather cord
A rock wrapped in variegated cotton yarn
A grey quarts and feldspar rock wrapped in turquoise leather cord
A round granite rock wrapped in pink leather cord with three beads
Have I shared my wrapped rocks here yet? I love collecting the rocks and wrapping them in just about anything (yarn, twine, cord, leather, beads, ephemera) in about equal measure.

The beginning of the book of Jeremiah. The word 'Verba' is ornately decorated.
Verba is the Word
I'm not sure what astonishes me more, the color palette, the unusual blend of motifs, or perhaps the casual stylistic insouciance in the midst of rigorous structure and symmetry?

Solomon's Knot motif, five points where the strands perfectly curve around the single white centre tesserae. But, these single white Centre Tesserae act almost like 'ghost points' - they're essential to the pattern but don't really exist, like seeing daylight through windows in the design.

This art is composed of an altered topographical map with an image transfer of the words "Tools For The Journey" in a box in the upper left corner. In the upper right corner is a circular symbol representing "The All in All". On the lower half of the work, there are embedded found objects. They are: (left to right) A miniature red watering can, a key with the word "Master" on it, and a square ceramic tile with a red heart. The borders of the work are Celtic knotwork . Many layers of acrylic medium provide a very stable surface.
Day 8 - #ArtAdventCalendar - "Tools For The Journey #1" - Mixed media on altered topographical map with embedded found objects. 7"x6"x1"
As requested, this and other small work available from #GuardinoGallery Link in my profile.

I was struck by Lawrence Payne's comparison of the considerations affecting modern and ancient mosaicists and how similar many of them are - and, in particular, the virtues of hand-crafted items. More information here: romanmosaicworkshops.co.uk 4/5

Aren’t knots just one of those cool things you wish you could intuitively do? Taught myself this one from a tutorial and I love how it came out, plus I love that I’m a person who ties cool knots now.
