The Slaughter's Big Rip-Off disc of the Shout Studios Blaxploitation box set has the 2nd part of a great documentary I appear in. It has an entire section on Truck Turner where I express my love for the film, and for Nichelle Nichols' Dorinda. Jonathan Kaplan is also interviewed in it. RIP to him.

I would like to see a remake with Ed-DEE and Samuel L. Jackson! They'll have to censor the new last name of the family on the ads!

Back then, I wrote that Scorsese won the Oscar for making a movie that looked like what Academy voters saw when they watched one his movies. I stand by that--this is a self-parody in the same vein as Brian DePalma's Passion. I'm gonna piss off a lot of Bostonians on 8/20 at my Inside Man seminar.

The film snobs will have a field day with this: At Shrek 2, when Ed-DEE says "I'll meet you near the bush that looks like Shirley Bassey" and they cut to that bush, I was the only one who laughed out loud. That's because I was the only person in the theater old enough to know who the hell she was.

Criterion Channel is running JUDGMENT NIGHT this month. It's a mediocre movie, but seeing it on the site reminded me that its soundtrack was a banger. I am sure I still have the CD somewhere in my house.

During the face removal scene in EYES WITHOUT A FACE, The lady sitting next to me at Film Forum made audible noises with every incision. She somehow managed to curl up into a fetal position in her seat as the scene went on.

BUT SHE NEVER ONCE LOOKED AWAY FROM THE SCREEN.

I missed THAT argument before I wrote my article. But a good seat for this costs $350! What parent is going to spend that on a movie their kid might not even watch?!

That's not what happened at my screening. A guy in the back of the theater yelled out "Oh my God, Chris is so fuckin' dead!" as the rest of the audience gasped.

And just like that, "And Just Like That" got cancelled.

Of course not! Because James Dolan, beloved by all of New York City (just kidding!), and his producer told them he wasn't altering the movie. Then, to protect the money they were going to make off this, WB sent Ben Mankiewicz to give it credibility. I wonder why they didn't interview Liza for this.
