i've been sick on & off for the past week. the past few days it's been so bad that i get nauseous if i do much physical tasks around the house which has waylaid some plans i had for streaming.

in positive news, my furry son is keeping me company though while i read on the floor of my reading nook.

13 days into February & I've already read six books this month & two short stories.

I've nearly doubled my initial reading goal of 12 books for the year. 😅 It's so amazing to be reading again & retaining what I'm reading.

also with my chronic illnesses, i know my 100% looks different each day. hell, even people who are not chronically ill who are lacking enough sleep, hydration, nutrition etc will have a variety in their 100%.

i keep this mantra with mental health & healing from trauma as well.

for me this was shown in today's handstand practice. i was struggling with stacking from wrist to shoulders which was putting strain on my elbows. but i still showed up & gave my 100% for the day.

i didn't have the same success as Wednesday but I learned what bad form feels like & that's progress.

gentle reminder to everyone that progress isn't linear but continued effort & persistence will keep your overall momentum moving forward.

next time i'm going to bring a small tripod so i can record my attempts & maybe i'll share with y'all

did more handstand practice today

had 5 successful kick up attempts & held three of them for 20 seconds & two for 30 seconds

today is also the first time i practiced on my own (@handsomemaxzero.bsky.social has been teaching me & been my spotter but are unavailable on Wed)

i'm making good progress

i didn't think my heart could be so full again after losing Bella but this sweet boy brings me such joy & calm that i have hope again.

today i kicked up into a handstand on my own. i used a wall to keep my balance but this is a huge step for me in practicing inversions.

looking forward to continuing to develop this skill. it's been a lot of fun learning so far. 😊

yeah - it's a beta feature that they added a couple of years back. users can turn it off in their preferences but the fact that Storygraph is using generative AI at all turned me off.

i started using the app Fable recently too & then found out it also used gen AI. so Pagebound has been refreshing.

After leaving Goodreads for Storygraph & then being disappointed when Storygraph began using generative AI, I've searched for a replacement.

Enter #Pagebound - an app owned, created & self funded by two women who are staunchly anti-AI.

i'm excited to read a series he did with one of my favorite Sci-Fi authors, Stephen Baxter. the series & first book are both called The Long Earth

oh - that's a tough one. in January my favorite that I've finished would either be Circe by Madeleine Miller or Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu

in 2025 i'm not sure though. there were many books that ranked equally. Mort by Terry Pratchett stood out though & many of the SciFi short stories i read.
