When I was a young man, I grabbed a camera, a bunch of film and went into the world. I photographed movie stars at film festivals, game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals at Madison Square Gardens and a heroic Canadian doctor tackling AIDS in Africa. 1 of 3

I cast my Ontario election advance vote ballot this morning. The current premier called an early election to take advantage of two situations—a national crisis caused by the US president and a weak opposition. This premier deserves a greatly reduced minority government—at best.

All this talk from the neighbouring country to the north—it is a geographical oddity—and the grey winter days are accumulating on my soul!!!

I can see why Stephanie hated to write her article. Awful, just awful, about the freeze on US foreign aid and the negative hurtful, painful outcomes on the ground in foreign lands. In just six days.

Street photography is fun and challenging. But I've been making more and more images of inanimate scenes. They are good but I always like the human presence. I'm speaking from a perspective of a 45+ year career of almost exclusively photographing people. But I really like my visual compositions.

Inspired by @stephanienolen.bsky.social 's NYT eye surgery article, I present my similar but different one from Zimbabwe. A two day cataract clinic at Karanda Mission Hospital in the Mt. Darwin area. Surgery by Dr. Angela Gwariro. A really upbeat story. The patients can see again!

Stratford Via passenger train station, Ontario. Boarded construction area, someone holding a child, a person on the right standing and waiting. Train has just pulled into the station. Really cold outside in the early winter season.

Traveling quite a bit the last 11 months—Africa, Kitchener, Toronto, Vancouver. Some for professional photography, other for family reasons. That's unusual and happy to be on the road (or train, in this case.)

Not so sure that "Canada won't break", Charlie. We are the more vulnerable trading partner. I would like to see Canada become more self sufficient and find other trading partners. It's definitely a "let's work together for the common good" time for Canada.

A foreign country, our so called best friend, threatens to cause meaningful economic harm to my country. Both countries enjoy a free trade agreement negotiated by the leader of that friendly country yet Here Come the Tariffs. Who benefits?

Anyway, here is a photo from my front door.

What a day. A foreign leader is threatening to take over my country and willing to use "economic means" to do so.

I have thoughts about the use of the notwithstanding clause to tear down this and other encampments. This is the camp that lead to the charter challenge. They won.

Kenya, 2004. Reviewing my archive. The Global Aware assignment covering AMREF Canada projects in Uganda complete, I end up in and around Amboseli and Tsavo national parks with new friends. Not a camera geek but I loved the Canon G5—slow, pokey, chest high to use.
