Lots of people like to talk about Russian influence ops and fascist influence ops, but here is a real tactic used by Putin- he did not bother trying aggressively to paint all opposition parties as enemies of the state. Instead, he painted them as being equally bad as his own.

Authoritarians of all stripes do not depend on convincing the whole populace to be rabidly loyal to them. They depend on convincing the cores of extant and nascent opposition that their actions are futile- either because the ruling party is unbeatable, or because there is no good alternative.

Every false-equivalence on this website between Democrats and Republicans, every deployment of the Nirvana Fallacy, and every cry of "Why even bother, they'll just cheat/ignore it anyways!" is a fascist influence op, whether intentional or unwitting.
