My friends daughter had a baby 12 months ago, didn’t go back to work because nursery fees were 3/4 of her wage, the extra free hours mean she can go back to work. The 2nd wage will mean they can get a mortgage to buy a house. It’s life changing

Just from a cursory glance at MPs interests, a lot of these aren’t really 2nds jobs, for instance the 3 top Labour MPS Chris Bryant, Diane Abbot, Yuan Yang their income is from book writing and royalties. A couple of others are for speaking to engagements and a few are drs/nurses.

I think even one each would be catastrophic. I agree the US isn’t a reliable ally, and maybe they won’t ever be again. But saying, in his words “I will disband NATO and I will set up an EU defence group” with no firm plan or acceptance that EU might not agree, just smacks of arrogance/stupidity🤷‍♀️

Where do they get the money to do everything at once? And please don’t say a wealth tax, because they never bring in the amount they are expected to. We need growth which leads to higher employment, lower benefit bill and there is more money to spend. It’s happening but as I say takes time.

But what’s making them look foolish is, Polanski’s talking about disbanding NATO + nuclear disarmament, saying he will “talk” to Putin about his nuclear arms. That’s looking more stupid by the day.

IMO if we manage to stay out of this he’ll be PM in 2029. The hate he gets is mainly from the extremes. But Corbyn failed twice, Reform are losing ground, Tory’s are gone. Greens under Polanski are looking a bit foolish at the moment. People are feeling change now, just need to change on immigration

I agree, but before we have state funded elections, I would like to try tighter rules. Donations should only be allowed from British citizens living in uk and paying uk tax, not via companies as is currently allowed. Harbourne lives in Thailand (even has a Thai alias), I assume doesn’t pay UK tax.

QinetiQ has had MOD contracts since 2001, Harbourne only became a major shareholder in 2022, are you suggesting the contracts should be withdrawn/or not granted based on who shareholders support. Thats a dangerous path to go down. I’m more concerned with profit levels and overseas donations TBH.

I read the briefing yesterday and TBH this is rubbish. Media are making out unaccompanied children will be deported, it’s just not true. I wish they would report the facts and then we can have an honest debate. That way we might get a fair asylum system were people are treated with decency/respect

I’m not saying I agree with the policy, I don’t. Plus I don’t blame the people coming here, it’s the people who take their money, knowing coming in that way breaches the rules for claiming asylum and puts the asylum seekers at risk of deportation.

Yes some student visas are being stopped, from areas that have high numbers of subsequent asylum claims. There has also been a clamp down on the bogus colleges. These bogus colleges were essentially, people traffickers, offering a student visa as an alternative to claiming asylum.
