I had not heard of this MP until this week. Seems to have done a remarkable job of attracting attention. Clearly it's upset people and is frightening but equally if they carry on like this there will be no Tory party at all. Is what she said acceptable, of course not it's outrageous and absurd.

Apropos of nothing, I really do think UK journalists and politicians need some reminding that mass deportation of LEGAL immigrants, particularly those with permanent status, is far more extreme than even Trump's America and would basically place Britain completely on its own among democracies.

How Brexit drained the Tories’ talent pool The party can’t keep expecting successful people to pretend that leaving the EU was a good idea

You can’t be an effective party for successful people in midlife (sort of the *point* of the Tory party ultimately) if you are at odds with them over the most consequential thing you did in office. This week’s column:

Enfield Labour are out listening to residents whatever the weather.

Our Labour government needs to be rooted in the lives of working class people. I’ll be your voice in the Cabinet, and our voice to the country.

Westminster is still on X and either oblivious or simply doesn’t care that it has become a toxic information environment.

This, this, this. If journalists don’t scrutinize this and explain it properly now then they have failed on their duty and will bear a share of the blame if such policies are enacted (most of the public oppose them and don’t I think realise what is being proposed yet).

TW: This is about abortion -but more than that it’s about how debate when shock tactics are on rise. If they are getting to our young people, we can’t pretend abortion access isn’t under attack but shouting back isn’t the way forward either. This will get worse until we stand up for light not heat.

Interesting choice of picture on the front. Doesn't exactly look apocalyptic, more just a bit cold with a nice enough view!

How are a small club from a fishing village about to win the Swedish title? "If you look at the underlying numbers, Mjallby have been overperforming quite a lot."

It's strange enough that MjΓ€llby are about to win the Swedish title considering they come from a fishing village of about 1500 people. It's stranger still that their 'expected goals' numbers are the joint-seventh best in the league. What's happening here?

Trump has pardoned pedophiles, cop-beaters, woman-beaters and George Santos. That doesn’t include the pardons he sold.

But tell me more about how we need the military to stop crime.

Honestly, George Santos is sort of the sweet spot of, "isn't dangerous enough to assassinate people I love but is well enough known we can use him as proof that Trump is just a criminal protection racket."

Almost all his other pardons/commutations were worse.

Yeah well, he didn’t go to the 1980s Millwall v West Ham game I went to. West Ham had two Black players. Whenever they touched the ball the whole ground - grandfathers with their grandkids included - erupted into ear-splitting monkey noises.

Does Robert Jenrick even realise English clubs were banned from playing in any European football competitions after May 1985 for the rest of the decade, returning only in 1990/91, after Heysel disaster, as UEFA + our government felt fans couldn't be policed safely travelling away?

He falls into my 'surely not a real person' category as it's not clear he actually talks to or has met someone outside his house (despite his videos) and based on any evidence he has so far produced. I can't think of many eras where he becomes senior Shadow Minister.

I can remember when conservative Christians would have been offended by Trump saying the f-word in public instead of worshipping him as he does it.

Yes and the difference between say 2020 or 2021 or even 2016 or 17 is this government has only been in power for just over a year, the last lot were in for 11 years by the previous equivalent or 6 or 7. The other thing is - in the data in any poll, the don't knows are basically the election deciders

No doubt that both Labour and the Conservatives are in a big electoral hole, but the experience of GE2024 suggests that FON tend to substantially overstate both Reform and Green support.

Given FindOutNow polls keep making news it's worth saying a bit more about their methodology.

Unlike other online pollsters it doesn't use a panel of people who've signed up to do polls. Instead they ask a small number of Qs to people playing the Pick my Postcode lottery. (Thread)
