Why reading still matters — and why I wrote Arwr Arfro
Llinos Dafydd, Author, editor and translator This year has been named the National Year of Reading. On the surface, that feels like something everyone can agree on. Reading is good. Reading is…
Research consistently shows that reading for pleasure supports not just literacy, but wellbeing, empathy and long-term educational outcomes. But pleasure cannot be forced. It has to feel voluntary. It has to feel safe✍️ Llinos Dafydd

”Hope floats, as a fated ship is dragged to its demise on the seabed. Hope rises when everything else is sinking. Hope flies when there are no wings and hope, without an engine. Hope does not need light, or oxygen to survive. It grows best in the dark, truth be told. Hope is the 1% which rallies against statistics. The one they cannot explain. Hope is against-the-odds, in spite of fact and solely made of will. Hope is the space between faith and spirit. Hope is the belief that things can get better, that the sun will warm again, that the end not need be that. Hope lives in the mud, in the mire, in the barren wasteland of emptiness. It is like magic, this hope. And the best thing of all? It’s free, you just have to call it near. Hope floats my friends, cling onto it, when you are just too tired to swim.”

Text reads ‘Mongolian saiga antelope numbers up by 24%’. Image behind of two saiga antelope grazing in the snow, the sunlight shines across from the left with a warm glow.
A remarkable recovery for the Mongolia's saiga. 🙌
Numbers of this critically endangered species have increased by around 24% in the last year.
Thanks to conservation efforts from WWF-Mongolia & partners, the national population is now estimated at 28,857.
Let's hope the numbers continue to rise!

To anyone that needs clarification, "your best" is what you can accomplish without damage to your physical, mental and emotional health, not what you can accomplish by destroying them

I don’t know how many people join Bluesky each day, but my sense is that more & more people are discovering the outstanding community/conversation here (best on social media) about better cities. I still think STARTER PACKS are a superpower. I’ve made many, but here’s my first again. Please share.

I really, REALLY, don’t understand why anyone is still on ‘X’
Being there signals that they haven’t crossed the line yet for you. That the benefits of the service they provide outweigh the utter moral bankruptcy. That you are willing to support their business and make them money for your own gain.

New podcast with Mel Owen to discuss a 'fairer, greener future' for Wales
A new six-part podcast series featuring comedian and advocate Mel Owen and explore how Wales can build a fairer, greener future. Green, Fair and Caring, the new podcast from Oxfam Cymru, was launched…
"I learned so much about how the (this) will impact the lives of everyday people, especially women. The podcast provides accessible but comprehensive insight into the findings of the report and why we should all be thinking about the future through a green lens” 🗣️ Mel Owens

"The Bylines Network is tremendously inspiring…it's crucial that journalism speaks truth to power, but the great majority of it unfortunately speaks with the voice of power…it’s really inspiring to see networks like yours filling that huge gap and doing what journalism ought to do.”
