So discord abandoned their ethics because they respect peoples privacy settings and donβt collect data for users who have it disabled? Am I understanding correctly?

Just to provide an update, staff reported in the Discord Admins server that they are looking into this now.

Yea, right now it looks like they did something to MQ enabled servers, maybe tried to remove stale MQ flags, and instead ended up deleting all active threads π
30.07.2025 15:02 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Alright, we also booped discord, hopefully the deletion can be reverted
30.07.2025 14:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Do you have ModQueue enabled? This seems to be the common thread thats causing a bunch of threads to be deleted for other admins in the Discord Admins server

you can "ban" them, but its not a full ban like for members, it just acts like a kick. The bot can still be added back, and in the case of a user app the commands can still be used and will respond.
I recorded a video when this all happened to prove bots can't be banned like normal user accounts.
No, you canβt ban a bot from a server. It just acts like a kick. When you authorize it it will join back with no problem, and it does not affect user apps at all.

1 - that message shows up for any valid user id you ban
2 - you canβt, and have never been able to ban bots. It says they are banned but in reality just acts like a βkickβ.
Sorry, just means only the person using the command can see its responses.

22.05.2025 02:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0You canβt ban bots, never have been able to. It says itβs banned but actually does nothing.
22.05.2025 02:13 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You cant and have never been able to ban bots. Most you can do is disable external app perms which just makes the responses private.
22.05.2025 02:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0You canβt ban bots, main post is misinformation.
22.05.2025 02:07 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Hey, man, there is no stealth user in any server. Itβs a user app which means it can only see messages that users use one of its commands on. Many of many of bots have user apps and they all function the same way.

I would say itβs more correcting misinformation than it is defending the bot.
There is a lot of misinformation in these comments.
Banning a bot does nothing.
The most you can do is disable use external app perms but that just makes the responses private to the user using the command
All modbots should be in your server, since user apps can only work on messages you explicitly use their commands on. This perm does not effect bots in your server.

Sort of, they are user apps which means only the user using the command has to authorize it. The bots only receive the message data of the messages the commands are used on.
As a server owner the most you can do is disable external app perms which makes the responses private.
It does not work, banning a bot does nothing.
The most you can do is disable use external app perms but that just makes the responses private to the user using the command.
Iirc it won't say the username if the user is not cached, though could be mistaken.

You can't ban the bot, it says its banned but it will do nothing. Its never been possible to ban bots.
The most you can do is disable external app perms but that will only make the responses ephemeral.
You can't "ban" apps, it just deauthorizes them from the server.
Since this has user commands the only way to "make it go away" (hide its responses from being seen publicly) is disabling external app perms
Its a user app, which means it only gets access to the content a user specifically tells it to. Meaning if you don't use the commands on an image it will never see said image.
22.05.2025 01:42 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Because they were never there to begin with, its a user app and will only "be in your server" if someone authorizes them or uses a user app command.
You can disable the publicly visible part of the user commands via external app perms but they will still work.
Also since it is a user app there is no "accessing server content" besides messages its activated on. They don't just have blanket access to all messages
22.05.2025 01:39 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
You can "ban" any account via ID at any point, they don't need to be in your server.
Also it should be noted that you can't even ban bots, that's never been something possible, someone can always just re-auth it and it will join back.
