Bike lanes going up in Edmonton’s Delton neighbourhood despite pushback from residents
YouTube video by CityNews Bike lanes going up in Edmonton’s Delton neighbourhood despite pushback from residents

One of my core beliefs about urbanism is that change is scary at first but most of the time, people just get used to it or even come to appreciate it.

This applies to new bike lanes, denser housing developments, traffic calming, etc.

Moving to a more walkable city pays off for health, scientists find | CBC News People who moved to a walking friendly city walked more, and at the brisk pace favoured to improve health and prevent disease, a new natural experiment shows.

β€œWalkable cities allow you to access more amenities on foot for daily life, like going to school or work, buying ingredients for dinner…But that's not available to everyone, given many cities and suburbs in Canada and the U.S. have been designed to emphasize transport by car, urban planners say.”

Human connection to nature has declined 60% in 200 years, study finds Prof Miles Richardson says people risk β€˜extinction of experience’ in the natural world without new policies

I happily admit that I'm much more connected to nature and wildlife around me when I bike for transportation.

I never got that in a car.

Public Transit Does Not Need To Make Money

Just like public schools, libraries, and health clinics, the more people take advantage of public transit, the better off we are as a society.
It's worth the cost to make it free.

They’re hoping to have 50 by the end of the summer, and hundreds over the next few years.
