Middle school science teacher, entomologist, snow lover in NC. Parent to a tween and a toddler. Beyoncé lover in my soul. I’d rather be ice skating on a lake in the north woods.

"The Islamists oppose women getting an education," I mutter, as I aim my missile at the girls school

But, yeah. I bet his pronounced midwestern values include folks who wish they were part of the veiled prophet nonsense.

Everyone should know about the veiled prophet. St. Louis honed its racism in such wild ways.

Then he got racist about Chicago AND needled and asked if that crossdressing teacher still works at my workplace. Just wow.

I had to directly tell him to stop talking and to leave the house.

I recommended that he read The Broken Heart of America and referenced the Delmar Divide and policies that forcibly removed people from their homes and then subjected them to violence and poverty and then he finally got to it. “So The Blacks live there.”

Wow

Small potatoes but I’m helping my parents get bids from contractors a la @tressiemcphd.bsky.social and, yesterday, a painter found out I’d lived in St. Louis and spent five minutes trying to get me to give him a racist reason to explain why St. Louis is so violent (his take).

Saw it at 3 am when the toddler woke up. Guillotines now

The CEILING FAN I bought last year has its own wifi. The ceiling fan.

This is A+ local content. Currently eating the dregs of my toddler’s Wegmans slice. Putting it on the list.

Who is sending out native plant catalogs in NC? I’d love to get on that list

JFC these people are monsters now. Also. The most recent antibiotics I got that saved my kid’s hearing cost $1.76. That’s pretty fucking cheap.

Oh no I looked at the internet again and the people are idiots

And treating a fever means annihilating the bacteria causing it with nasty toxins (the real kind, not the woowoo kind) that disrupt all of the pathogen’s cellular processes and attacking the bacteria with repeated doses of specialized poison.

Peace. There is no peace as treatment for a fever.

This is such a bad take. Someone I knew simply spit at the ground walking by a cybertruck and the cybertruck owner went and claimed assault and demanded that the owner of the parking lot take action against the spitter and also screamed running at the spitter. A kid was there.

I wish I had a driver! This looks like a great set. Buying a drill was life changing as a homeowner.

Gotta get thyself into some vernal pools!!! Or some very carefully cared for ponds. It’s super beautiful to see Ambystoma egg masses in person.

If from a rural NH or VT town, may have it in actual physical cash dollars. A Vermont dad once bought a trailer home from my husband for his grad student daughter and pulled out 12k in an envelope because he didn’t like his neighbors who worked at the bank knowing his business.

Also deeply New England. Everything passed down for generations and second hand or purchased from LL Bean in 1970 and patched multiple times. Car is sensible and 15+ years ago. Could buy a second home in cash.

99% of US bathroom stalls have gaps around and under the doors and have no indicator locks. The individual bathrooms almost always have a simple lever handle with a push button lock. It’s quite goofy when a solution exists.

We got a local measles outbreak email from daycare. Goddamnit. Vaccinations are required at our daycare with no exceptions. Guess what? I work at a school! Where many kids have exemptions!

I think this may be a difference in building standards in the US vs elsewhere. I have no clue why the deadbolt-style indicating locks are not required in public spaces.

Door lock indicators are super uncommon around me. I wish they were more common. Door locks, however, often don’t work and I’ve been walked in on more than once.

Why does absolutely no one knock before trying to open a bathroom door in a restaurant these days. Wtf.

Good god. I once moved a smooth softshell turtle across a road and I’m lucky I have all of my fingers. I knew it was going to have a long neck but it was so much wilder than I expected.
