On this theme, a plug for my Citizens Advance proposal.
After 10 years of NI contributions, the state would give people the choice to take a year of their pension as a lump sum, in exchange for retiring a year later.
The value is circa Β£12k now.
Welcome your view!

Thank you for engaging with the idea Helen, I really appreciate it.
Do sign up for updates on the website if you are interested. Lots more work to come in partnership with the @smfthinktank.bsky.social to develop the concept.
The Tories are talking home ownership today.
Predictably, their plans are based on deep cuts elsewhere.
Citizens Advance is a real alternative.
After 10 years in work, give people the choice to take 1 year of their state pension as a lump sum (Β£12k) and retire a year later π

There is still an immense amount of work to do to tackle climate change, but the worst thing we could do is to give up.
Proud to sign this letter, urging Kemi Badenoch not to try and dump the Climate Change Act.

Great to speak with @andrewlewinmp.bsky.social yesterday about his idea for a Citizen's Advance - having a year of state pension as a lump sum earlier in life in return for a later retirement. With early insights into @smfthinktank.bsky.social research on the issue from @jamiegollings.bsky.social

Great to be in the hall for the Chancellor's speech in Liverpool.
Her central message was that this is a Labour government committed to extending opportunities for all young people.
Through the youth guarantee at home and an ambitious youth mobility deal with the European Union.

On the eve of Labour Conference, am delighted the Chancellor has reaffirmed her support for an ambitious youth mobility deal with the EU.
This would be good for young people, good for business and good for everyone who wants a closer UK/EU relationship.

Retrospectively changing the rights of people to stay in the UK isn't fair, isn't right and is certainly not the British way.
