This research is important because it corroborates what we already knew - that when comparing the UK to peer economies, it has had a big slowdown since 2016. It does so with firm-level data and finds more EU-connected firms have sizeable shortfalls in productivity and investment compared to less.

An excellent policy that I anticipate will bring good news to people across Welwyn Hatfield.
We're a community of contrasts and I am optimistic this change in how funding is allocated will give our local authority a much needed boost.
Great that @allymcgovern.bsky.social embracing BlueSky too!

As immigration dominates the brief this morning, hereโs my two cents on the salience vs. the importance of the issue:

Essential reading from Calum Weir - on findings from some innovative polling from Labour Together.
His words
"Immigration is salient, polarising and important.
Cost of living is foundational, unifying and in some ways, even more important."

A heartfelt thank you to everyone across Welwyn Hatfield who attended and participated in Remembrance services today.
The support from the public has been exceptional.
From veterans and cadets through to brownies and cubs acting as flag bearers.
We will remember them.

That's how I think my fabulous Gen Z team member will describe these results.
Congratulations to our sister party from across the pond.
Some striking results.

There was a time when opposition politicians were desperate to talk about bond yields.
That's about to change.
Borrowing costs have fallen today, because the market has confidence in the Chancellor's approach.
That's why today's press conference was important.

Am pleased Farage is making more speeches.
Every time he does, something new slips out of the bag.
Today - he is considering a cut in the minimum wage for younger workers.
I'm proud our Labour Government increased the minimum wage. You should be paid fairly for the job you do, irrespective of age.
After a week of faffing around the @dailymail.co.uk have agreed to apologise. Here it is. Fingers crossed for fewer lies/smears dressed up as news in future

For more than 70 years, the ECHR has protected the fundamental rights of millions of people.
I fully support our membership. Leaving would put the UK on a par with Belarus and Russia.
Farage's 'Bill' today was pure symbolism, but we have to keep making the argument for why the ECHR matters.
If we abolish stamp duty, the biggest winners will be those with the biggest houses.
If your house is worth ยฃ2million, you save ยฃ150,000. If it's ยฃ300,000 - you save nothing.

Kemi Badenoch appears to be getting plaudits for a speech in which she breezily claimed to have found ยฃ47,000,000,000 in savings.
The inconvenient truth is that these numbers are nothing more than a fantasy.
This really is Liz Truss's party now.
David Gauke was a Secretary of State as recently as 2019.
His eloquence and clarity in making the case against leaving the ECHR reminds us just how far the Conservative Party has fallen.

On this theme, a plug for my Citizens Advance proposal.
After 10 years of NI contributions, the state would give people the choice to take a year of their pension as a lump sum, in exchange for retiring a year later.
The value is circa ยฃ12k now.
Welcome your view!

Thank you for engaging with the idea Helen, I really appreciate it.
Do sign up for updates on the website if you are interested. Lots more work to come in partnership with the @smfthinktank.bsky.social to develop the concept.
The Tories are talking home ownership today.
Predictably, their plans are based on deep cuts elsewhere.
Citizens Advance is a real alternative.
