Really important thread, and good reason to call Congress today. A War Powers Resolution is good but lacks the constitutional foundation of an AUMF. The White House knows it can’t win on an AUMF, which is why there wasn’t one in the first place. It’s a total kneecapper for R’s.

Legislators will no doubt get an earful from constituents, both D and R, and then be stuck between a rock and a hard place: Vote yes, and risk losing your seat; vote no, and lose Orange God’s blessing, also risking loss of seat. The D’s win big on a vote like this, even if it doesn’t stop the war.

No, the AUMF will be a vote that officially authorizes the President to use military force in in Iran. It is questionable whether the White House has the votes to pass this in its favor. That’s why it’s the better action for Congress to take. This is a VERY unpopular war and Congress knows it. 1/
