Also, Sen. Mark Warner, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, also was not briefed before the attack, per a source familiar, but the GOP chairman, Tom Cotton, was briefed. Both Democrats are on the “Gang of Eight,” which typically would be briefed before a significant US military engagement. The Gang of Eight includes the House and Senate leaders from each party as well as the chairs and ranking members of the House and Senate intelligence committees. Top Republicans on the Gang of Eight — including Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune — both were briefed ahead of time, sources familiar say.

Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19th 1865 Maj.Gen. Gordon Granger, arrived in Galveston, Texas and announced the end of the Civil War and the end of slavery. However, the emancipation proclamation came 2 and a 1/2 years earlier on January 1st. 1863, many enslavers continued to hold enslaved people captive after the announcement. Juneteenth facts: attempts to explain this 2 and a 1/2 year delay in the receipt of this important news have yielded several versions that have been handed down through the years. Often told is the story of a Messenger who was murdered on his way to Texas with the news of freedom. Another is that the news was deliberately withheld by the enslavers, to maintain the labor Force on the plantations. And still another is that the federal troops actually waited for the enslavers to reap the benefits of one last cotton harvest, before going to Texas, to enforce the emancipation proclamation. All of which, or none of these versions could be true, certainly for some President lincoln's authority over the rebellious states was in question. Louisiana Sent Kids to Adult Jail That Violated Scores of Regulations, Reports Say Investigators found the Jackson Parish Jail violated state rules 83 times between July and February—12 times more than the second-worst jail.

Children incarcerated at the Jackson Parish Jail in Louisiana say they’ve been held in solitary confinement, sprayed with mace, and shot with pepper balls.

The fact remains: No prison is a safe prison for children.
