I wish I knew. Strongly suspect itโs going to take some great country leaders to deliver it, and Iโm not seeing them now.
The debacle of the recently failed Franco-German fighter aircraft project shows the core European problem of national parochialism.

Iโm Gen X and sheโs Gen Z so we have different bad taste book-ending this stuff.

@stephenkb.bsky.social weโve had a couple and got it right when we bought a Cookoo rice cooker from the Hmart Korean shop in New Malden. Itโs not a looker but the rice is always perfect. Our previous Argos one not so perfect.

OTD 12yrs ago, the end of the rules-based world order started.
On Feb 19, 2014, russia launched its war against Ukraine with the invasion of Crimea.
The free world witnessed this brutal violation of international law but did nothing to stop that, preferring to pretend it was "separatism."

Somewhat harder we need to secure minerals from friendly sources, and this means also not relying on the US.
We need an AI strategy, creating our own models ultimately to run on our silicon. AI models are advancing so fast we donโt need to be at the leading edge, because weโll never lagโฆ ๐งต

We need a comprehensive and long term strategy. A strong energy policy that decouples us from fossil fuels (already happening), an industrial policy where we start to fabricate and sell strategically important goods. I mean computer chips. ๐งต1

This is such and interesting thing with China.
But thereโs a way out. China developed & aced its tech industries from scratch. Israel, a vastly smaller country did the same.
Nothing stops us from doing so too in the UK. Itโs possible. We need the will, and the way will follow.

A Defector Explains the Remote-Work Scam Helping North Korea Pay for Nukes
Kim Jong Unโs cyber operatives have faked their way into IT jobs at American firms and elsewhere, pocketing big revenue for the regime.
The story of Anton Koh provides a rare window into the tactics of Kim Jong Unโs digital warriors, who have faked their way into remote IT jobs to generate cash for the North Korean regime www.wsj.com/world/asia/a...
