I wish I knew. Strongly suspect itโ€™s going to take some great country leaders to deliver it, and Iโ€™m not seeing them now.

The debacle of the recently failed Franco-German fighter aircraft project shows the core European problem of national parochialism.

Yes of course. Not a clever question.

Yes Iโ€™m part Ashkenazi. Iโ€™m also part other Jewish. All Jewish though.

Hope that helps.

My daughter told me that thereโ€™s a thing called โ€œMillennial Greyโ€, and thatโ€™s itโ€™s awful. This seems to be it.

Iโ€™m Gen X and sheโ€™s Gen Z so we have different bad taste book-ending this stuff.

@stephenkb.bsky.social weโ€™ve had a couple and got it right when we bought a Cookoo rice cooker from the Hmart Korean shop in New Malden. Itโ€™s not a looker but the rice is always perfect. Our previous Argos one not so perfect.

This is so true. However even though things change as children grow and become adult, itโ€™s really just a different phase to a fundamentally wonderful relationship.

OTD 12yrs ago, the end of the rules-based world order started.

On Feb 19, 2014, russia launched its war against Ukraine with the invasion of Crimea.

The free world witnessed this brutal violation of international law but did nothing to stop that, preferring to pretend it was "separatism."

Look in the bright side. At least they managed to get up to date circa 5 years ago to reflect the industry moving on from โ€œmasterโ€ to โ€œmainโ€. Itโ€™s progress. Sort of.

Being very un-Bluesky here, nor am I. I donโ€™t have certainty in what I say in that post. However if Taiwan can have a strong chip manufacturing baseโ€ฆ

Youโ€™re dead right about Europeโ€™s capacity to do it. Brexit has been so dumb in every way. This is just another.

By more than a few months. What matters is to use these models cleverly, not necessarily to have the โ€œbestโ€.

We need political and industrial leaders up to the job.

Somewhat harder we need to secure minerals from friendly sources, and this means also not relying on the US.

We need an AI strategy, creating our own models ultimately to run on our silicon. AI models are advancing so fast we donโ€™t need to be at the leading edge, because weโ€™ll never lagโ€ฆ ๐Ÿงต

17.02.2026 22:37 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

We need a comprehensive and long term strategy. A strong energy policy that decouples us from fossil fuels (already happening), an industrial policy where we start to fabricate and sell strategically important goods. I mean computer chips. ๐Ÿงต1

This is such and interesting thing with China.

But thereโ€™s a way out. China developed & aced its tech industries from scratch. Israel, a vastly smaller country did the same.

Nothing stops us from doing so too in the UK. Itโ€™s possible. We need the will, and the way will follow.
