Not all AI prompts are equal. Some emit 50x more carbon than others. Here's why. When researchers delved into the tradeoff between AI sustainability and accuracy, they uncovered strategies for greener chatbots.

Standards From Darwin Core to WGSRPD TDWG standards aid the exchange of biodiversity information.

TDWG standards www.tdwg.org/standards/, such as Darwin Core, underpin the bulk of biodiversity data shared globally today via e.g., @gbif.org (Global Biodiversity Information Facility), iDigBio. The organization has come a long way from its taxonomic databases history, but TDWG still sticks.

Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG) We are a non-profit organization and a community dedicated to developing biodiversity information standards.

@bugeric.bsky.social not a big fan of acronyms either. TDWG (pronounced TAD-wig) is a legacy for Taxonomic Databases Working Groupβ€”still its official name for tax purposes. Today it is the more descriptive Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG) tdwg.org. 300-character limit encourages shortcuts.

Did you know that @tdwg.org is on BlueSky? Calling all creators, managers, and users of bio- and geodiversity information to join us as we work to create and promote #standards for sharing and using knowledge about the world's #biodiversity and #geodiversity. Find out about #LivingData2025

This is a challenge for creation and use of @tdwg.org biodiversity data standards as well as the entire community, not only for primary biodiversity data uses shown below, but decision-making in #conservationpolicy. Sounds like a possible #livingdata2025 session topic πŸ‘€

Microscopic pillars on insect wings give bugs an antibacterial superpower New insights into how these β€œnanopillars” work could inspire better ways to protect humans from infection

I see insect wings in the news and immediately think of the bioinspired research on cicadas of the @cotesia.bsky.social lab. Sure enough www.science.org/content/arti... Exciting possibilities and congrats to Yutao Chen on reporting the research. #Science #bioinspiration #cicadas

Exploring Size Bias of Natural History Museum Specimens: Comparing Historic Taxidermy Mammals to Contemporary Populations Specimen sex biases in museum collections of vertebrates have been well-documented (Cooper et al. 2019). This known sex bias equates to body size bias for mammal groups that exhibit high rates of sexu...

Are the biases we see in observations the same as those found in natural history collections or #museum displays (see doi.org/10.3897/biss...)?
