These startup brands basically don't have much of a market outside of big metro areas (e.g. LA, NYC, Atlanta, Seattle) for the first 5-10 years of their life as a result.

Not the case in the US, my local Volvo dealer won't work on Polestars.

I live in a college town with a rapidly growing population of Rivians, but the closest service center is about 2hr/100mi away.

Polestars and Lucids are still pretty rare, and the closest service centers being 2-5hr away certainly isn't helping.

In theory you barely need to service them as they're EVs but they're brand new cars from brand new companies on brand new platforms; that's bound to have problems.

The EVs from startup brands like Rivian/Lucid/Polestar interest me immensely but the lack of service center availability is a real con.

"Gas should be more expensive" is the only opinion I hold that is controversial in every space, but our rapid consumption of petroleum is leading to our demise & we might need to rip that band-aid off at some point.

Cheap gas plays a bigger role in America's treaterlite rot than most realize. It incentivizes gas guzzlers by minimizing their running costs, it's a huge reason fullsize pickup trucks are everywhere here & a core tenet of our car dependency.

Solid state batteries will make 1000mi range EVs possible but I don't think they'll benefit much from passing the ~500mi range mark. I'd much rather have a 4000lb EV with 400mi range instead of a 4500lb EV with 1000mi range.
