If you haven't had the chance to head to the coast over the past few weeks/months, tomorrow is your day to do it! Monday afternoon will be filled with sunshine and warmth, with 70s from Pacifica down to Santa Cruz and Monterey. Enjoy it before cooler, cloudier, and windier weather arrives...

Did September seem strangely rainy across the Bay Area? Well, it was! Now that it's October, let's take a look back...
Downtown SF picked up .11" of rain - that's not a lot, but 5 days of measurable rainfall is the most number of rainy days in September since 1989. @kpixtv.bsky.social

How much rain has fallen this week? There was a stark cutoff between .5"+ of rainfall in the North Bay to the .01-.1" across the rest of the Bay Area.
A few more light showers are possible, especially south/east bay, into early tomorrow. Drier/warmer weather arrives just in time for the weekend!

Showers across the North Bay tonight will fizzle out as they move south/east. A few sprinkles will arrive early Wednesday before a line of more widespread rain moves from west to east late morning through the afternoon. Drier and warmer weather pushes in later this week! @kpixtv.bsky.social

Imelda will NOT be making a US landfallπ It will still be high rip currents and surf through the late week, but it could've been a LOT worse if the storm didn't take a sharp right turn.
It's SO cool to see the way Imelda and Humberto have/will interact with each other! @kpixtv.bsky.social

When is it going to rain in the Bay??? There are two main chances...
The first is tonight, as a weak line of rain moves south and quickly fizzles out. The second is late Tuesday into Wednesday - this will be the better potential to see more widespread, wetting rainfall. @kpixtv.bsky.social

Did you hear?! It's time to get ready for more rain, Bay Area!
Here's what to expect:
Sun: Increasing clouds, but dry
Mon: Light drizzle early, line of rain from late afternoon - late night
Tue: Break in the activity
Wed: Heavier and more widespread rain likely

The big changes we've been talking about all week have arrived! Moisture from Mario will move across California over the next 48 hours, bringing more clouds, 5-15Β° cooler highs, and wet weather. Rain will move from south to north across the Bay late Thursday into Friday. @kpixtv.bsky.social

SoCal will get the heaviest rain tonight and into early tomorrow morning - up to 2". Scattered storms will move over the Sierra Thursday afternoon, bringing dry lightning/wildfire concern. Moisture will then move over the Bay Area/Central Valley late Thursday into Friday. @kpixtv.bsky.social

After one more day of heat, highs will come crashing down Thursday across the Bay Area as moisture from 'Mario' moves up the West Coast.
The certain: it's going to be cooler and cloudy starting Thursday.

Have the Northern Lights been more active over the past year?
Yes - because it's the peak of this solar cycle, when the sun creates the most energy. Explosions on the sun can reach Earth, interacting with the atmosphere/magnetic field, and creating the Northern Lights! @kpixtv.bsky.social

Get ready for a wild week of weather, Bay Area...
A heat wave begins tomorrow and continues through midweek with upper 90s to near 100Β° inland, low 90s by the Bay, and 70s/80s by the coast. By Thursday, temperatures will drop ~10Β° as tropical moisture from Mario moves overhead. @kpixtv.bsky.social

BIG changes on the way over the next 7 days across the Bay...
Enjoy the seasonable weather this weekend, because starting Monday, the heat will be ON! Expect high 90s to near 100Β° inland, upper 80s by the bay, and mid to high 70s along the coast basically all next week... @kpixtv.bsky.social

How much rain did the Bay Area see this week?!
Anywhere from .25-.5" fell over the mountains- but even the San Jose Airport observed nearly half an inch of rain just yesterday! Moisture is always welcome this time of year, decreasing the normally heightened fire danger. @kpixtv.bsky.social

Pacific hurricane season has been a LOT more active than Atlantic...in fact, there is a potential 13th named storm brewing, while the Atlantic has only had 6 named storms and there is NO 7th on the horizon! Great news during what is normally the peak of Atlantic season.. @kpixtv.bsky.social

The lenticular clouds over the Bay Area yesterday were AWESOMEπ€©
These happen when moist, strong upper level winds are forced up by mountains - the air rises to, it cools and condenses to form a cloud, which then evaporates as the air falls, making the cloud appear to hover in place!

A storm is swirling off California's coast, bringing NorCal the heaviest rain. The Bay Area will likely see some sprinkles tonight and into tomorrow, with another few drops possible early Wednesday. Enjoy the wetter and cooler weather before it heats up and dries out next week! @kpixtv.bsky.social

There's RAIN CHANCES returning to the Bay Area!!! A storm passing well to our north will keep temperatures cooler areawide and bring the coast/North Bay the best chance to see rain - not heavy or widespread, but this is the best potential for ~0.25" of rain in months. @kpixtv.bsky.social

RAIN CHANCES return to the Bay Area! But don't get too excited...the heaviest rain will fall over NorCal, but a few raindrops are possible late Tuesday into Wednesday! North Bay has the best chance, but that's still only 30%...even so, moisture is GREAT during the normal peak of wildfire season.

California wildfire and smoke update: Air quality will continue to improve across the state over the next 24 hours as onshore winds blow the densest smoke east. Westerly winds will also usher in more moisture through the weekend, lowering fire danger even more! @kpixtv.bsky.social

Severe storms likely tonight across the TN Valley/Upper OH Valley aided by moisture from post-tropical remnants of Lorena. The heaviest rain will arrive into Saturday morning, before storms push east to make for a soggy Saturday evening across a lot of the East Coast. @cbsnewsplanet.bsky.social

It's HOT and HAZY across the PNW, with one more day of excessive heat. Temperatures will continue to gradually cool down into the weekend across the entire West Coast, which is great for decreasing fire danger. Smoke/air quality concerns will persist for the next few days @kpixtv.bsky.social

Bay Area/California wildfire and smoke update:
Fire danger will continue to decrease as more clouds, calmer winds, and cooler temperatures arrive into the weekend. But, while containment is still ongoing, dense smoke will create air quality issues across the central valley. @kpixtv.bsky.social

TROPICAL UPDATE:
Kiko and Lorena continue to swirl in the Pacific...and while Kiko will likely be a storm for the fishes, Lorena is forecast to make landfall late this week along the Baja Peninsula. The Atlantic has no named storms (yet), but I'll keep you all updated... @kpixtv.bsky.social

Wildfire update for California: The lightning that brought all the wildfires yesterday is pushing north, bringing the biggest wildfire threat to NorCal and into the Cascade Range. The ongoing wildfires across the central valley will decrease air quality for the Sierra. @kpixtv.bsky.social
03.09.2025 20:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
There was 4,500+ lightning strikes across California early this morning...15-20 of those in the Bay Area. No new wildfires in the Bay (right now), but there are 10 wildfires that sparked this morning across the Central Valley. Cooler/cloudier weather will decrease fire danger through the late week.
