When it was tightly sandwiched in between jokes, it’s kinda hard to notice.

Said jokes felt like he constantly needed to justify why Lyn was good despite being a Fire Emblem swordie rather than letting the moveset speak for itself.

Sure, you could argue videos like the Undertale characters were filled with jokes, but they were jokes that still respected the characters. The only similar thing Lyn had was “Her game doesn’t have classic mode”
I would’ve preferred more bits like that over what we got.

It’s different when it’s pointed out by the moveset creator because it comes off as insecure about the move making sense, so he framed it around humor to sound like “See? I know the move is boring, but I’ll do it anyway!”
He should just own up to it as long as the move makes sense, boring or not!

I probably would’ve been able to pay attention more if the move explanation wasn’t buried underneath a bunch of low-brow humor.

If you’re making a moveset for a Fire Emblem character and you can’t come up with any in-between bits besides “Fire Emblem Haters dumb”, then yes, it comes off as saying all Fire Emblem swordfighters are the same.
Again, this is coming from someone who respects Lyn fans.

I just wish the character and the moveset was taken a lot more seriously rather than being reduced to a joke.
Heck, it’s honestly a complaint I have about Byleth’s reveal trailer in Smash officially.

If the joke was kept to the beginning of the video and didn’t persist throughout the entire moveset, I would agree with you, but the video as it is makes it look like BJ considers Lyn a joke pick for Smash.

Genuinely, the entire video feels like an April Fools Day bit where the whole joke is about Fire Emblem characters playing similarly to one another. Especially with the “Uses a bow? Must be Byleth and Link!” bit.

I still feel like it could have been better explained, because as it stands, it felt like the move was only there for the “Countering counters” bit.

Compare this to his Crono moveset, which only had a single joke about “(Describes everything about Hero) See? He’s just like Bowser!” and leaves it at that, whereas with Lyn, there was literally no other bits beside “Fire Emblem Swordie Hate Bad”.

The only time I think it’s ever come up was with SaltyDKdan’s reaction to the new Fire Emblem game. Other than that, you act like people still constantly complain about Fire Emblem characters in Smash every day.

Rather than saying anything about Lyn herself, which arguably makes her come off as more boring if there isn’t anything to say other than “She’s from Fire Emblem and has a sword”, which ironically proves people’s point on Fire Emblem’s problem in Smash.

When you preface the moves with stuff like “Finally, a break from the sword!” “A counter that counters counters?” and “Another teleport?”, it doesn’t tell me anything about why Lyn herself is important. All it does is just say “Stop complaining about Fire Emblem.”

Still, a good Smash moveset video should display why people want the character in and what they can do.

I just feel disrespected that Lyn’s whole video got reduced to just “BOY, FIRE EMBLEM HATERS SURE DO SUCK LOL!” because it feels less like Lyn was chosen for the reasons why people want her and more just because she’s a Fire Emblem swordfighter.

You could say that about Ultimate’s entire speculation era, not just Fire Emblem stuff, but everyone’s matured since then, so I’m sure it’ll at least be a little more civil once the next Smash game comes around.

Even once the bit was over, there was still the joke of “Boy, the Fire Emblem final smashes sure are boring!”

The whole video just felt really mean-spirited for no reason other than to “own the haters lol”. I could imagine a lot of Lyn fans would be disappointed that her entire video is just reduced to a joke.

They’re certainly not as annoying or as prevelant as they were back then to warrant the joke dragging throughout the entire video.

The whole down special part just kinda made me feel like the sole reason why you even did this character was to make “Fire Emblem Swordfighter Bad” jokes.

For some constructive criticism, it did feel like you went a bit too far with the bit, and the only reason why you kept it was because “Well it’s a Fire Emblem Swordfighter, so we GOTTA own the people who make fun of that!”
