The ability to be "objective" or "neutral" about secret police disappearing kids would, in any rational system, be disqualifying. That the opposite is true is an indictment of journalism, and one reason that the mainstream media is distrusted.

Scams undermine democracies and free enterprise by eroding general mutual trust. Meta’s business model incentivizes people to financially exploit each other.

I have felt absolutely bonkers saying this for years at this point, especially re: journalism. If you have to check its work because it can't be trusted, and then fix whatever it does wrong, HOW would it save time???

As always, the story is how and why the media – particularly prominent broadcasters such as the BBC – are making certain choices as to which individuals, ideas, and views are platformed and how these are framed to the public.

The path ahead will be shaped by such decisions. The water we swim in...

A "ceasefire" isn't the time between strikes. Newsrooms need to reckon with how they'll determine when that word is no longer useful.

you mean IN OPPOSITION TO scientific evidence. He isn't speaking about simple unknowns, he's speaking in *contradiction to* existing evidence. That's a huge difference that media continues to get wrong about public figures lying.

Congress must vote for SJRes76 and reverse EPA's dangerous rule to delay the common-sense methane protections. Strong standards to #CutMethane are necessary to cut waste, create jobs & boost energy security.

Yep, this phrasing implies that slowing down or moving with intention on this would be a "waste."

Warped priorities: 17 NYT news stories on the Louvre jewel heist (so far); 3 NYT news stories on 7 MILLION PEOPLE attending No KIngs Day events (including one on late-night comedians and one on Trump's "brown liquid" video.)

Chicago’s Uprising Against ICE …

Chicago’s Uprising Against ICE …

This is a bullshit headline in the New York Times. There’s no β€œuprising” in Chicago. Rather, Chicagoans are peacefully defending themselves against ICE violence. Use of the term β€œuprisingβ€œ is just what the Trump regime wants to excuse a further fascist crackdown in Chicago.

It is an inexcusable omission, and editorial malpractice, for Reuters to omit mention that the President doing this kind of thing on a media platform he owns & has not divested is unprecedented, likely illegal and an ethical violation. The message itself is unprecedented and illegal. Why not say so?

twice a year the entire U.S. press becomes a marketing extension of a single billionaire-owned retailer, and nobody in any position of editorial power thinks it's weird or gross

A photo editor or web producer probably chose this photo because it's from the last time the Insurrection Act was invoked, which is referenced in the story. That doesn't mean it's the right choice, especially for social media where it's spreading a false sense of current events.

Sadly, the reigning epistemology of journalism only acknowledges "true" or "real" (and thus speakable) motive when it is explicitly stated by the speaker. It can in no way, shape, or form be attributed via logic, history, or pattern. This bans news from naming anything one would like to hide.

We need a bigger national spotlight on this building raid, fam. Agents dropped from helicopters onto the roof. Citizens and non-citizens alike were dragged from their homes in the night. People who weren't kidnapped during the raid had their belongings seized after the fact. This is madness.

people care about men being lonely in particular because under patriarchy the belief is that men are entitled to women's deference/bodies/affection, and if they're not getting that, then there's a crisis.

Opinion | Trump, Vance, the Economy: 11 Voters Discuss The group discusses the president’s job performance so far across issues such as the economy and immigration.

NYT's focus group format is silly for a host of reasons but -- I say this as a 33 yo -- calling a group where the average age is 31 and the median is 32 "young voters" is ridiculous! lol No one under 28??? So no Gen Z? who organized this www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Also I appreciate Max directly saying "civilian vessels"

I noticed article headlines say "suspected drug boat" and thought, you can just say boat. You know that to be true, and you know the administration lies constantly, so your headline doesn't need to even suggest there's a reasonable suspicion

β€œsnub of US soybeans” makes it sound like China is somehow morally obligated to be buying US soybeans when in fact if you make US soybeans vastly too expensive with punishing tariffs you would be fucking stupid to be buying US soybeans, this was all entirely predictable, predicted, and now it’s real

*screams into the void*

the word "link" validates that a connection exists. this "plan" is based on "unverified reports," they are TRYING to link, FALSIFYING a link, say literally anything but *actually linking vaccines to deaths. Words mean things! Headline writers, end the madness!
