Norway defeated England in a World Cup qualifier in Oslo on September 9, 1981. Which led to thisโ€”the greatest call in sports broadcasting history.

Kick rocks, Maggie Thatcher.

Dominic Sandbrook has recently done The Fall of the Aztecs for kids/teens. Very good at balancing out the Conquistador perspective with that of Montezuma + heโ€™s a great narrative historian.

Although I do notice that the graph states its โ€™victim-basedโ€™ crime. So possibility that this has decreased in proportion to population, but other crimes, particularly when the perceived victim is a faceless corporation or franchise has increased?

The only reason I ask is that with the perceived (at least) increase in cases like shoplifting, the frequency and understanding that nothing would be done prevented the crimes even being reported. I wonder whether this-and similar unreported cases-potentially skews the reported changes.

One question: how are larger businesses reflected in the survey, shoplifting etc. When I used to work in a Superdry, we had groups of shoplifters pinching items several times a week. Still, I can only say that Iโ€™ve been a victim of crime once. Is the survey therefore not underestimating some crime?

Cambridge University urged to apologise over jailing of thousands of โ€˜evilโ€™ women without evidence or trial A 1561 charter granted powers to imprison young working-class women found walking with undergraduates after dark

For 350 years, Cambridge had a private prison (abolished in 1894) with the power to arrest & imprison any woman "suspected of evil."

"None of the women ever got a fair trial, and none of them had actually even broken the law, according to the law of the land โ€“ there was no ยญevidence of wrongdoing"

Stunned by this tale of the Czech Legion having to circumnavigate the globe in order to return to Western Europe after Russiaโ€™s ports were blockaded in 1918. Thereโ€™s surely a terrific film in this.
