We used to freeze frame the VHS just so we could laugh all over again. Those eyes! How could anyone find something so funny so frightening, I thought.

I mean, I get it now, but still.

As Pee-wee's Big Adventure turns 40, I once again reflect on how the Large Marge bit is top five hardest I've ever laughed in my life, and it was years before I discovered people were scared by it. I just never considered the possibility.

Not my favorite, but we don't talk enough about how great Permanent Record is. Absolutely crushed me.

Oh, I get it now: RFK Jr. isn't Secretary of Health, he's Secretary of Air Quotes "Health." Sort of a hipster irony thing, but with mass death.

And kudos to the publicity department for using a bit that's in maybe 30 seconds of the movie as the main promotional image. Sneaky so-and-sos.
