AOC came out swinging against age verification legislation and somehow the entire tech press seems to not have noticed?

Oh my god no! The Iranians were developing Trump's healthcare plan.

If I had 800,000 Instagram followers, I would jump off a bridge. I have to go through the daily horror of being perceived online by the masses without being rich to make up for it? Sounds like hell.

If the Dems who win in the 2026 midterms get squeamish about prosecuting this administration, we'll need to elect a bunch of new people running on Nuremberg shit for 2028. This isn't a joke. It's the law. It's justice. Biden let Trump back in the WH and this happened because Joe didn't do his job

I hated making weird drinks when I worked there and I still never worked myself up this much.

(It was more about the stupid “secret menu“ crap where people got mad we didn’t know what they were on about)

Was Yes? No, autocorrect, *wanted*

Never been more glad that I didn’t ever have the chance to be a professor like I thought I was yes in high school.

Yes, that! I resent the company who might fire over an imagined offense far more than the dipshit who got mad at me for some imagined offense.

(I DO like that they‘ve changed the faction make up though and added more, so maybe this *is* necessary with that decision.)

I can see where you’re coming from, and maybe I just haven’t been exposed to enough of the newer stuff- but generally the post-rift stuff hasn’t sat well with me. (And the newer heresy era stuff)

Idk. I guess I think other species filled that commentary space better.

We should display more unfettered contempt for our enemies. They really have earned it.

It’s also what I object to about the character, especially if they don’t do anything interesting with that friction.

… it’s what they *should* do but never would. That’s the whole damnable point! augh!!!

Well, it was a midwestern US stereotype… seventy years ago.

horrible thought of the day: our tech overlords asking the chatbot for advice is probably an improvement on asking the reactionary group chat for advice

I’m confused at how many of them seem to see them as a way to help workers. It’s something I intensely resent as a worker! Why would I want this?

What’s funny is that they were SO scornful of customers (behind the scenes) not knowing all the banking terms of art. While they said shit like this.

They still wouldn’t believe you. The number of bizarre things people there believed was something else.

maine's political makeup is not 'loves nazis': i'd categorize it by right wing northerners and liberal southerners (who oft deeply crave a 'reasonable republican').

you're witnessing a hole created by a party that just doesn't have it in them to go *hard* against nazi shit, hasn't for years.

it's fucking absurd how much time we all spend having conversations that neither the employee nor the customer want to be having because some high level corporate freak thinks it will improve customer retention by 0.04%

SHE WAS THE BRANCH MANAGER. SHE HAD BEEN ONE FOR YEARS.

It was less surprising to me that another teller and the junior banker didn’t know this. But her not only not knowing but refusing to accept evidence was… something.

The number of people who do not understand this blows my mind. I had a boss at the bank who didn’t get it! HOW

since i'm in maine and inevitably come around a lot of people's takes on the state and platner, one thing i'll say is: the party just has not had the kind of venom against him that they had against... types like mamdani.

frankly, they don't seem nearly as bothered by the tattoo. bad shit.

It fascinates me that humans want this connection so much. It's SETI on planet Earth.
And that there's an openness to consciousness in machines, but less so* to identifying it in most sentient, intelligent, socially complex non-human animals.

*I'm talking public, not researchers in either case

If LLMs were treated as a niche technology for a subset of work, instead of being shoehorned into every aspect of life without consent, you wouldn't have people ready to join the Butlerian Jihad Vanguard.

There is a kind of self-centered chauvinism in the way tech people think of "work" and "use."

Maine really is unpollable. Also I suspect that Mills would gain a lot of ground on election day (not in the primary!) via name recognition. “Oh hey, I know her” seems to be a lot of Collins’s power, so being a known quantity would probably help with the weirder difficult to poll folks.

Hey maybe while we're at it we can find some way of modifying the hiring process so that socially-awkward but eminently-capable people don't keep washing out of opportunities they'd otherwise excel in just because an HR guy isolated from the department they're hiring for didn't like your tone.
