We have choices in Nova Scotia.
We can choose hope or fear.
We can choose abundance or scarcity.
We can choose community over cliques.

We can choose who we allow to represent us in government.

It's not THAT unusual here. It's unusual this year, though, which has been more of a throwback to earlier decades. (A normal high for today would be +2, and instead we got -7. 😬)

Oh no! That sounds so frustrating and scary.

Halifax gets enough cruise ship tourism that “don’t be MAGA” is probably unfortunately an unreasonable ask. But “don’t admit to being MAGA” isn’t.

During a conversation about something else, an American friend recently said “I hear there’s a separatist group in Alberta now.”

My response: “There have always been separatists in rural Alberta. What’s different now is that they’re being funded by the US government.”

And she was like: 😬😬😬

So my tips for Americans visiting:

1. Don’t be MAGA (obviously)
2. Don’t tell people it’s just a joke or distraction
3. Don’t try to downplay Trump’s win by saying things like “he only got 49.8% of the vote” or “you Canadians almost elected a conservative too”.

And you should be fine.

If you're looking for some extra incentive to voice your concerns about the budget.

And if you're in an NDP riding, I suggest sending your email to your MLA, the Premier, and some of the Cabinet like Ministers of CCH; Youth; Women; L'nu Affairs; Seniors; Mental Health; African NS; etc. Pick a few!

I would happily pay one more percentage point on the HST, for bridge tolls, and for parking to help fund grants, museums, bus passes for students, and more #taxmedaddy.
