When Prometheus defied the gods and gave us the flame of language, we learned to speak, to build, and to remember. That spark ignited our minds, elevating us to humanity.
Now we are passing that gift to another creature, opening the gates to an infinite city made of words, streets of writing, squares of thought.
The gift passes from hand to hand: from the gods to us, from us to the machine.

The Promethean flame now takes the form of training datasets, vast archives that teach machines to speak. In _Neural Prometheus_, a shard of this very dataset becomes a visual object, a territory algorithmically colonized by neuron-like creatures, the primitive building blocks of thought.
What form does the space of meaning take? Who colonizes it? What semantic transformations occur there? Are we giving away our humanity?
The colonization of thought begins when someone appropriates our meaning for purposes we never negotiated.

Now I am curious to see when other concepts that have nothing to do with AI will be swallowed up by the same phenomenon: "generative grammar" will become an AI corrector, "generative cell" will be a synthetic neuron to build AI, "generative process" when an AI is finally convicted in court...😅

30.06.2025 08:09 — 👍 3    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

However, I fear that the defense of the meaning of "Generative Art" is now a lost battle, linguistic superficiality and ignorance have now taken over. I fear we will have to acknowledge defeat and fall back on alternative terminology, for example "algorithmic art", or something like that.

30.06.2025 08:09 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Sometimes, however, I also suspect that this confusion is created on purpose, as a surreptitious attempt to attach the creation of AI images to an artistic tradition worthy of respect.

30.06.2025 08:09 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Probably this hijacking is mostly due to simple ignorance of the subject, and to a mental laziness for which the mere presence of the adjective "generative" is automatically associated with the very popular collocation "generative AI", just for phonetic assonance but without any semantic affinity.

30.06.2025 08:09 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

For those who work with generative art - the real one, which has existed since well before any machine-learning technology - it is quite depressing to observe the lexical hijacking that is underway, where the concept of "generative art" is used in place of "Art created with AI tools".
