A resolution for ND to "recognize the Kingship of Jesus Christ" and a resolution urging the US Supreme Court to end marriage equality... These are the priorities of the far-right Republicans in the ND Legislature. π Good grief.

North Dakota House advances bill requiring school cellphone policy β’ North Dakota Monitor
North Dakota school districts would be required to develop a cellphone policy but retain control over what is in that policy under a bill passed Monday by the House.
The ND Legislature is considering several bills regarding cell phone use in K12 classrooms. Yesterday, the ND House approved a bill requiring schools to develop a cell phone policy - so there is local control versus a one-size-fits-all approach.

North Dakota bill faces opposition over IVF concerns
The bill, aiming to define an unborn child as a human being, faces opposition from those worried about its potential impact on IVF treatments.
The health challenges faced by this north Fargo family have been unimaginable, but IVF gave them their miracle baby girl.
An extreme personhood bill would end IVF in ND and extinguish the hopes & dreams of people like them who need IVF to build their families. 1/2

Bill introduced to provide $1.1 million for Fargo Theater upgrades
It would be used for a dollar-for-dollar match.
The Fargo Theatre is a treasure in our community! We're proud to have this historic cultural center in the heart of downtown Fargo + District 44. My bill to provide a matching grant to the theater will help it continue to be a treasure for years to come.

Gov. Armstrong's budget addresses issues that the Dem-NPL caucus has long worked to solve: behavioral health, affordable housing & property tax relief. We also need to invest more in state employee raises + K12 funding so ND can stay a leader in delivering public services & public education!

Good news: HB 1150 - which would have reinstated ND's "blue laws" - went down in flames today. That means current law will stand and ND businesses can continue to make their own decisions on whether to be open on Sunday mornings or not. Lawmakers noted the many inconsistencies in the bill.

North Dakota bill seeks to put the Ten Commandments in every classroom
Proposed bill mandates putting Ten Commandments posters in every classroom; sparking church-state separation concerns.
Unnecessary & unconstitutional: HB 1145 would require ND's K12 schools AND higher ed institutions to display the Ten Commandments. The bill specifies the exact wording and size to be used. If it passes, it will undoubtedly lead to litigation, wasting taxpayer dollars.

North Dakota governor unveils bold property tax plan in first State of the State address β’ North Dakota Monitor
North Dakota Gov. Kelly Armstrong unveiled a plan Tuesday that aims to eliminate property taxes for most homeowners within a decade.
Gov. Kelly Armstrong said ND needs an immediate solution to address overcrowding in state prisons & county jails, and he called for a new approach to corrections - including more deflection & diversion - so we're not using jails as treatment centers. πππ

Our opinion: The time has come for free school meals for all in North Dakota
Free meals improve the nutrition of all students. And a universal program also removes the stigma of free meals.
Kids learn better & behave better when they're not hungry. It's time for the ND Legislature to pass universal school meals!
Rep. Zac Ista emphasizes how this is one way to help ND families who feel the pinch of high costs of food, childcare & housing.
