this team is like an etch-a-sketch that every period break gets shaken and you never known what team is coming back on the ice

Tavares is the oldest Leafs’ forward in this game by over 6 years lmao
The average age of the forwards excluding Tavares is 24, and the average age of the blue line is 30 😅

The Leafs: Mitchy is the only Taylor Swift fan, it’s just him
Also the Leafs:
The NHL & the Leafs took a stand about LGBT families at a time when it was not popular or profitable to do so. They had no incentive to do this, and the backlash was predictable, but they did it anyway. Hopefully we can see that type of allyship again in future.
Happy Pride (Game) everyone! 🏳️🌈♥️
It’s a sweet Christmasy movie. You can rent it for $4 on YouTube or watch free on CBC Gem in Canada.
(cw: 2000s-typical attitudes. the f-slur is used x5, mostly by kids. some minor adult characters are homophobic)
A very spoiler heavy review:
subjectifymedia.com/breakfast-wi...
Major NHLers (including former Leaf captains Vaive & Sittler, and current captain Sundin) stood up for this “gay movie” in a way that was just not the norm in sports at the time. It was one of the first times major men’s pro athletes publicly said “being gay in sports is fine.”

This made international news.
Both the NHL head office/Bettman and the Leafs *repeatedly* had to defend just being involved with this movie.
It resulted in MLSE’ president’s email getting doxxed and him being harassed for months. There were calls to boycott the team & league.
This movie came out at a time when hearing the f-slur casually was normalised even in Toronto - the Leafs & NHL endorsing it in 2007 was a groundbreaking thing.
20.11.2024 19:01 — 👍 8 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0The movie is a rom-com about a gay former NHLer working through his own internalised homophobia from his time in hockey after he and his partner take in a gender-nonconforming little boy. The Leafs faced a ton of backlash for being a part of a “gay movie”, especially from audiences outside Canada.

🧵🪡
Fun Fact: the first men’s pro sports team to approve their logo/name to be featured in an LGBTQ+ themed movie was the Toronto Maple Leafs.
“Breakfast with Scot” is about a closeted former Leafs player. It was released in 2007, during the height of the gay rights debate in North America.
