Calling for buildings of women and children to be set alight is not βfree speechβ.

Botanist. Talks about plants and food way too much.
Calling for buildings of women and children to be set alight is not βfree speechβ.
11.05.2025 08:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I really need to stop listening to talk radio.
Almost every day presenters will ask why young people experience depression & anxiety.
A talking point second only to being mean about immigrants, LGBT+ people, or pretty much anyone that isnβt just like them.
Never seeming to make the connection.
You know people can be called βwongβ and have decidedly un βching chongβ accents.
20.12.2024 23:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just watched a fitness bro on Instagram say how unhealthy foods βwith ingredients you canβt pronounceβ are.
Try listening to a British person say βJalapeΓ±oβ.
What do all these pieces have in common?
They never actually ask a registered dietitian on.
Talk ππ» to ππ» dietitians ππ»
When I worked for The Observer I used to see the most fact free pieces on nutrition written up by conspiracy theorists as if they were authorities on food.
Ditto for the BBC.
Iβve even quit jobs because of it.
The public really deserves better
And thatβs because pretty everyone knows what the scientific advice is to be healthy.
But βscientists say pretty much what they have been saying for 30 yearsβ isnβt newsworthy (ie profitable)
Def not a new media phenomenon
Listening to a bunch of journalists (who I admire and respect) talking about how podcasts are full of misinformation about health and nutrition.
Absolutely true.
But *the exact same people* spreading these mistruths on podcasts have been doing so in conventional media for years.
All the same people filming themselves chucking milk down the sink are also the loudest voices when it comes to misinformation about food processing.
Which is really harmful to public health.
@mrjamesob.bsky.social Obvs, Iβm your number 1 fan, so great to see you talk about the bill gates milk conspiracy.
This is why so much of the media discussion about βultraprocessed foodβ is so dangerous.
Often over simplifies really complex issues and leads to this kind of dangerous misinfo.

01.12.2024 12:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Sounds like someone actually called a dietitian, rather than a borderline conspiracy theorist.
Refreshing change!
The nicest man in garden media too. π

19.11.2024 11:49 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Canβt some unhinged columnist from the Telegraph pop up to call me βwokeratiβ or make a racist pun on my surname, just to take the edge off?
19.11.2024 09:18 β π 33 π 0 π¬ 4 π 0In my hippy high school, we had:
a) Mandatory volunteering with charities helping the vulnerable.
b) A nursery to grow trees to restore a local rainforest.
c) Even an annual culture & food night to celebrate the founding of the United Nations.
All of this is less wholesome than my Bluesky feed.
Aiyoh! You oso at this party???
